HELP: best food for stress

Now I know I would be better off getting rid of the stress or 'managing it away' but in the short term I am 'managing it down'. Getting rid of it just ain't gonna happen in a hurry. My cat is on heat two and crying out all over the house and I'm trying to work without strangling her! So as my reaction today was to finally crave so comfort food (and the only thing stopping me indulging in that was lack of transport and having to stay in for for a delivery that may not happen; it's overdue by…See More

Achilles tendon problem

Jogging recently I got a sudden sharp pain (halfway through my workout) on the inside of my achilles tendon about 3cm above the heel. I couldn't continue running and pushing up onto my toe even in walking was painfulI finished the set with a modified gait so it wasn't a complete rupture, just a tear. Now all the conventional advice says restrict bloodflow and movement and weight bearing.I think blood flow to relatively minor injuries is better as long as there is no chance of thrombosis or heavy…See More

New symptom: any similar experiences and solutions?

I'm also get some tiny black bruises. Is this good or bad. I am getting more greens than ever, at least two little gems a day sometimes double that, and some spinach each week.Plenty of Vit D and…See More

Gut Flora and being lean and healthy

The importantance, role and variation of gut flora is starting to be researched and experimented with: both in humans and animals. http://bytesizebio.net/index.php/2010/04/25/obesity-the-role-of-the-immune-system/Perhaps this is why some people take longer to start losing weight on HCRV; their gut flora (needing lots of stuff including high quality protein, unheated and with sufficent amino acid…See More

Hi!  Was the Plantar Fascitis discussion taken down?  I can't find it.  When I try to click on the link in my email saying I got a response, I just get a 'not found' message:

I try to get people interested in an uncooked plant-based diet by dealing in generalities, by talking up the benefits in general terms. I find that when educators hone in on specific nutrients for the prevention of or treatment of specific conditions there are some people who will get a bottle of calcium citrate or K or E etc thinking that by supplementing with these things, they can have the best of both worlds: their cooked diet and vibrant health. So, diet-wise, I speak in broad terms to prevent this. Because when you come right down to it, there are many nutrients in addition to K and D that are equally as important for bone health. And even if you are getting all of them, abundantly, without weight-wearing activity, you won't have strong bones. So educating people about a lifestyle that supports all aspects of robust health - which includes strong bones - tends to be my focus.

Bacteria can produce a range of vitamin K2 forms, and can convert K1 (found in a plant-based diet, leafy greens. kiwi, and grapes to be specific) to K2 in the small intestines. This is another reason I advise taking a good probiotic after a course of antibiotics to help refloristate the gut.

So for those not cooking their food, and not ingesting things that disrupt normal gut flora, like garlic, spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, tea, etc, we'll be okay on all the K's (barring any intestinal disorders). Vitamin D however, although just as important as K for bone health, is the nutrient that many people tend to be deficient in, and because it doesn't come from the diet, this is why I harp on it, as in this article.
