Well, lets see. I was raised in a southern home where no one really had any knowledge of nutrition. Thankfully, it was pretty common for the old timers to still do a little gardening and my grandma and grandpa (who I spent a good deal of my childhood with) grew fresh tomatoes and strawberries. Other than that and the occasional apple or grapes here and there, mostly everything we ate was processed or cooked in bacon grease. Yuck! (or course that was normal to me then.) I grew up and still ate poorly, thinking I had a well balanced diet. I met my husband in 07' and tried to impress him with my cooking and he would always get sick. He had a healthier pallet than I did and really didn't like heavy, greasy foods at all. So I started learning how to cook a little more healthily. Before long, I was hooked on learning about nutrition, though it was kind of a slow process. We decided to go vegan one day on sort of a whim because we had been talking over being vegetarian and vegan just made more sense. I was pregnant at the time and everyone gave us a hard time saying I would malnourish the baby and whatever, but I knew better. I also starting gardening on my own that year. I developed a passion for raw food because of the wonder I saw in watching it grow and not wanting to mutilate or distort it before I put it in my mouth after picking it off the vine. It was a slow process and up until very recently we were still eating tons and tons of cooked foods. My husband found the durianrider videos just a week or so ago and has been doing high-carb raw vegan since and I was on board by the second day, just from seeing his behavior. We've been doing it for a few days now (though I have mixed in a cup or so cooked pasta a couple of times and rice) but I am so intrigues and inspired to really just jump on board. I am still overweight from my pregnancy two years ago and I am really ready to get fit and be the healthiest I have ever been. I suffer from sciatica and it hinders my ability to exercise as vigorously as I want to sometimes but I'm hoping with the raw diet, maybe that will eventually heal itself too! I'd love tips, advice, encouragement, whatever. Also, it is so important for us to bring our daughter, Gwendolyn, up right, eating good, raw and organic food and not being addicted to these processed, animal products like I was when I was a child. Look forward to hearing from you.

I guess the main thing for me is information on how much to feed my daughter if she is on the same diet (which she is loving so far!) and also a good source for calorie counting and info and the best things to eat for max. carbs.

Hey! I would totally come to the rally except that I am not in AR right now... I am in AR (Argentina) until sometime in May. I actually met a guy through 30BAD named Mike who lives in the fayetteville/bentonville area; we went to a vegan potluck together in 2011. He is a part of the Arkansas Raw! group if you want to contact him. He had been doing full HCRV for many months back wgen we hung out in 2011. I would assume he still is :)
How is the fruit scene in faye-town this time of year? It's summer where i am!
