Emily left a comment for Janne Schaffer
Emily said… And really, such a Book of Buts could never properly be termed a book, as a book must, at some point, end. And I hardly think you are capable of drawing the subject to a close (except, perhaps, with the word 'But...').
Yours is the true never-ending saga, which is better suited to a more esoteric and infinite medium.
Emily said… If your inner dialogue builds to the point where you desire to write a book on the subject, you could title it 'The Book of Buts.' It would likely be wildly popular until the moment when everyone realizes what it is about.
Unless, of course, you incorporate some sort of twist ending where the Freudian nature of your obsession is revealed.
No, I take it back. Even then, it will likely not show up on Oprah's Book Club list.
Emily said… Come across any nice dog noses lately?
Emily said… I ran over a nail today while driving to work. Does that count as news?
Emily said… Not that I blame you though, love. The conversation was fun once upon a time. I think that was where I first mentioned my high school toga parties.
Emily said… As for what's new, not too much to report here. I'll be in Berlin in a week.
As for what's old...let's just say that if I get alerted even once more that somebody on this godforsaken site likes math or English or Spanish or Basket Weaving 101, I'm going to blow my top.
Emily said… Never mind. Please stay away from the insides of ears. And from the insides of all things.
Janne Schaffer sat on a wall,
Janne Schaffer had a great fall.
And all the king's horses and all the king's men...
Couldn't put Janne Schaffer together again.
I need you in one piece. Please.
Emily said… I think that you should take a closeup of your ear, capturing its cavernous insides to whatever extent possible. Should this prove to be physically impossible, the use of another person's ear is permissible.
Emily said… Did you think of an idea for a motif or are you just trying to tell me that you miss me?
Emily said… I could see through the fog in some areas of China, but in others, you literally could not see more than two meters in front of your face. When we first flew to Qingdao, for example, we had to cross a very long bridge on our way to the hotel (40 km, I believe), and because there was nothing on either side of us besides an expanse of gray water and nothing in front of or behind us but asphalt, it seemed as though we were suspended in this infinite gray cloud mass, which had no beginning and no end, and we were the only thing that existed with any certainty. I kid you not, I have never seen anything like it.
