Profile Information

Our community would be delighted to know you better. Please tell us more about yourself and what brought you to 30BaD. Detailed responses will only be accepted (feel free to reapply with more detail if at first not approved as a member). We suggest you pick a name other than your own if you want to maintain anonymity.: I am a change agent, channel, healer, musician, producer, food activist, lover. I was raised in the US on the SAD diet. As a child I was overweight, had bad acne and low self esteem. Sometime around high school I started exercising as a member of the volleyball team. I remember one summer fasting on bread and mustard, and running on my mom's nordic track machine while listening to old Grateful Dead tapes. I was working at Burger King at the time. I started wondering if drinking soda didn't have something to do with it. I gave it up and started drinking water. Next I let go of red meat, then, all meat, then dairy. I moved to the west coast, and started making my own soy milk and tofu. Then someone showed me the simplicity of almond milk. I visited Maui in 2005 and was introduced to Lenny Watson who helped me transition to a raw diet. After about 3 months my body regulated and adapted to the diet. I maintained a strict raw diet for about 8 months, before introducing small amounts of soup, steamed veggies, and quinoa. Despite the raw cleanse I was still eating a lot of sweets, raw desserts, and lots of fat. After visiting Costa Rica for the first time I got a staph infection. It was systemic. I took the antibiotics. All good, till I sliced my foot open the next year. I took more antibiotics. People told me about probiotics, but I didn't get it. When I got home, I was feeling nausea after every meal. I had terrible sulfur gas, and I was convinced I had giardia So I started looking into killing giardia, turns out more antibiotics was recommended. So I took antibiotics, then MORE antibiotics. The whole time I was taking parasite tests that showed up negative, blood work showed only high fat in my blood. I was angry, mean, my liver was TOXIC! People couldn't stand to work with me. I started taking wormwood, quasia, and Black Walnut tinctures. A mystic elder told me I should see a Naturopathic doctor. I did. Rebuilding the system was the new game. Probiotics, natural supplements and aloe juice. I did a thorough stool test which revealed the doctor was right, no parasites, just low biffidus (probiotic) levels and elevated candida. Candida? What is that? Doctor put me on the traditional "can't eat it" diet, no sugar, simple carbs, wheat, fruit. I ate lots of salad, reintroduced eggs to the diet, steamed veggies, and quinoa. To make up for the lack of sugar I was experimenting with stevia and xylitol and eating lots of coconut oil and almond butter. I made it through a year of Maui and almost through Costa Rica travels with this diet. The whole time people were telling me, no dude, you can eat fruit... "Eat fruit? on this diet? No way! Candida loves sugar!” But I wasn’t feeling better and I was slipping up and after almost 7 months on the diet I still was not feeling better. I was invited to perform at a festival in PA called the “Vibrant Living Festival” with “all the durian I could eat” being part of my compensation I accepted. I met up with some friends who were eating 80-10-10 and they looked so healthy. I picked up the book and it made so much sense, more than anything I had ever read before about the human diet, it appealed to the anthropologist in me. They told me it could cure candida. At this point I was willing to try about anything. So I did it. I did the recommended nutri-diary and realized I was eating way more fat than I thought I was, and probably wasn’t actually eating enough calories than I should have been, definitely not enough carbs. It really did blow my mind. After a day of fasting, some colonics, and a week on this diet I FINALLY started getting better! And I felt it IMMEDIATELY! My energy went WAY up, my attitude improved. I was detoxing from the fat and candida. Its been a year and half. I am still healing, and I still really enjoy eating my fruit for breakfast and lunch. I’ve gotten it to the point where I know when I can eat what and it feels incredible. I love my fruit and salad :) (story edited to fit)
