My name is Emily, I'm almost 17 and I've just finished year 11 at school. I have been vegetarian since 2008 (grade 4!) and this year I've made the switch to a high carb, low fat, raw till 4 style vegan diet! 2015 has been one of the hardest years of my life. I spent a week in hospital for the treatment of (diet unrelated) psychological issues, I was enduring detrimental friendships and all while simultaneously managing the increasing stress from school. In around about August I began receiving treatment for an eating disorder. At that time I was on and off vegan in order to further restrict my intake, but when I began trying to recover I gave up veganism and went back to eating crap. The dietary switch made me feel even worse and made me think recovering was pointless and impossible. I felt so s*** about myself, I hated what I was eating and I hated that I was gaining weight because of it. I began restricting again. I then decided to go back to veganism because I had already given up on recovery, so there was no point to eating how the doctors were telling me. However this time it was different, I watched heaps of Freelee's videos and the things the said about portion size freedom and no calorie restriction really inspired me. I gradually found it easier and easier to increase my intake, I was inspired to not give a s*** about calories and I realised that I'm so much f***ing more than my weight. Meeting with my case manager did help a lot in the recovery process, it definitely exposed the reasons why I felt the need to restrict, why I felt so s*** about myself and it made me realise my triggers. But the vegan lifestyle just help me feel good about myself. It freed me of guilt, left me feeling satisfied (and not feeling like I needed to purge because of that!), made me feel connected to the earth and strengthened my relationships. Veganism has changed me for the better and I'm 100% never going back.

My favourite books/movies/authors/pastimes are....
I adore anything by Oliver Sacs, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat is my fav! Hallucinations is also fantastic. I love The Kite Rinner and Life of Pi and my fav movies are A Streetcar Named Desire, Black Swan, Inception, Blue Jasmine (anything by Woody Allen!) and 21 Jump Stret is also a classic. I love reading, exercising (although I hardly ever have time plus it's so f***ing hot at the moment) and performing! I actually love doing drama homework because I love creating plays and the stuff we learn in drama is so interesting. Also it sounds lame but I freaking love learning French and I like always practice it even when I'm not doing strictly French study / homework lol.
