Calories per day (Doug Graham vs 30BAD)

Hey all, I just have a quick question. I was reading the 80/10/10 again a little while ago, looking for some tidbits, and came across Doug's recommendations for caloric intake. Basically, calories in/calories out kind of deal, like all the other scientists eventually boil it down to. So, a person who's 180 pounds has a BMR of 1800 calories plus activity. Our community would be delighted to know you better. Please tell us more about yourself and what brought you to 30BaD. Detailed responses will only be accepted (feel free to reapply with more detail if at first not approved as a member). We suggest you pick a name other than your own if you want to maintain anonymity.: I became vegetarian as an obese teenager (320lbs) and, through a period of spiritual searching, became a buddhist monk practicing in temples throughout California and Japan, engaging in a self-sufficient lifestyle. While in Japan, I injured myself during a meditation retreat and had to return to Canada, after approximately a year of being a monk.

Not long after returning, I became 100% vegan and a personal fitness trainer/nutritionist and a musician, having lost 155lbs. I wasn't satisfied and felt I wasn't doing what I really wanted to do, so a year ago I left that life with my partner (Roxanne) and started farming again. At the moment, I'm in the process of starting my own farm based on permaculture principles. For money, I sell vegetables. For myself, I aim to develop an extensive food forest and perennial food system. I try to eat mostly raw, the only limited factor being financial at the moment and the time of year.

Problem is, I don't really like fruit from the northwest. I like tropical fruit. So who knows, maybe I'll end up farming in Hawaii! I'll keep you and my girlfriend updated on that one :P
