There is a lot less reason to hang out on 30bad now that the chat has been gone a few months. I really enjoyed hanging out in there and talking about fruity escapades or dreaming of fruitopias and…Continue

I went panhandling yesterday on a median at a stop light for about 30-60 minutes early at night, made $12. It was below freezing and I was wearing shorts. Held this double sided sign.…Continue

Was riding my bicycle 10 days ago, got hit directly from behind by an SUV that was going 40MPH driven by an old nearly blind man, I was thrown off the bike and rolled over the top of the vehicle and landed behind it, got 3 fractured vertebrae, concussion, sore ribs and shoulder and some bloody scrapes. Was carried 50…

Went to the Trader Joes dumpster at 2:00 am, hopped the fence, pulled out some bags, some had the celery and romaine in them, and there was a box full of limes. Not a great score, but something.
This vid is not me, but of someone else that lives in this town, stumbled on his video earlier, recognized…

We have gotten ourselves into a scary place, a place where we can manipulate objects and get all kinds of things from the environment and come up with reasons for why their "healthy". No one is qualified to make that call, it's just experimentation, "healthy" is a marketing term. That's why I stick to what has been around for the longest times when it comes to my diet, anything newly messed with (in the time since we started using tools) by humans should be taken in very small quantities.

Was riding my bike fast and a strong gust of wind blew what I think is a small piece of sand into the lens, it's not in the center so it's not affecting my vision.
I went to sleep last night, it happened almost 24 hrs ago, was hoping it would come out.
Will it come out given time?
Nicki Vichick said… Hi David :)
So I see you're in hawaii...and I have been thinking of going there, to backpack/explore/wwoof/work, whatever basically. I have never been there though, and am curious about what it's like for that kind of life. I'm on a really tight budget so I can't afford to be paying rent and all that unless I find a job there. What advice would you have for my plan?? Plus I'd really really love to meet some nice people down there. I need some more 811 friends man...
thanks so much

Diane said… Okay, definitely! :) Yeah, the Big Island has a ton of room. I'll contact you through FB :)
Diane said… Alright, perfect! So what brings you to Hilo exactly? I know that it's one of the least touristy places of the Islands, so you'll really get a "real" Hawaii feel. I'm kind of just wanting to know what the locals are like, fresh produce that is available, and the water life (ex: is there a nearby beach, etc.). But of course, I'd just be interested in hearing your thoughts overall from your adventure :)
Diane said… Hey David! I just joined the Hawaii Group, and I noticed that you mentioned you'll be flying to Hilo, Hawaii soon. I was actually wondering if you might be able to tell me how your experience was there, because I've been accepted into the college their, and since there's no way for me to visit, it's hard to get a feel of it. I would just be interested in knowing what you think of Hilo in particular!
Thanks in advance! :) Hope you enjoy your trip!
Toni Hartman said… Bananas and dates. Wow. I eat a lot of fruit but more veggies than fruit. I was always told that all the good stuff (nutrients) is in the dark greens and multi colored raw veggies.
Toni Hartman said… Just added Grahams's book to my que at the library. I have done a lot of research and have been leaning towards going vegan and running minimalist the past few years. I finally got the inspiration to dive in after reading the book Born to Run. It's not always easy. I was raised on the SAD and I'm surrounded by friends and loved ones who eat the SAD. I've been feeling so alone. My hubby has been very supportive but I still feel the need to fix regular SAD meals for my family. I can't expect them to embrace it just because I do. Not to mention, it's extremely expensive buying all that produce! I guess I'm just taking it in stages for now...
Toni Hartman said… Forgot to ask... what is 811?
Toni Hartman said… That's horrible, David. Broken vertebrae sounds awfully serious! You should read that book (The Long Run). He was a fire fighter in NYC who got hit by a bus. He shouldn't have survived. His doctors believe he survived mainly because he was such a strong athlete and his body was conditioned to endure so much. It's very inspirational. I'm so glad that you've chosen a more healthy lifestyle. What made you think that you needed to change your diet and your running style?
