So when I'm being strict about a raw vegan diet, as I was before for many months and have again been recently, all body odor drops away, skin stops excreting oil, and when I take a shower I don't…Continue

Been into raw vegan life for the past year and felt great eating that way strictly for several months. I fell off the wagon and didn't eat raw consistently for a while and am recently back to being raw vegan, this time HCLF! I'm looking for more interaction with others to help maintain a higher standard for myself.

My journey to health started a few years ago - I'd always tried to eat somewhat healthy (mostly vegetarian, a lot of organic stuff) since I turned adult, but I really didn't know much about health...and occasionally would eat things I knew were really unhealthy (Pizza Hut, McDonald's) because they were cheap or for social reasons - I'd had minor skin issues - some rashes showing up at my joints, for years. It had never really been enough to be concerned about though. When I was in California, my skin got really bad, initially just on my legs, which doctors and myself guessed to be scabies. That wasn't correct, but I wouldn't figure that out for quite a while. I lived with it and was crazy with trying to get rid of it for many months, taking scalding showers, using permethrin lotions, and trying anything else I thought might help. Nothing did, and it ended up spreading to neck-to-toe... The constant itching and pain was really hard to bear - painfully walking would look like a very old crippled man and I would literally scream into the sky at night when trying to sleep, cursing any god that might exist. I took to drinking to drown out the pain and itching. Then it got worse - some of the sores developed staph infection, and this quickly spread to all over my skin - I was covered with pustules, and some of them were growing deeper into the tissue than just the skin, particularly on my thights and buttocks. I went to a hospital and they told me there was little they could do; they said I'd probably need to have both legs amputated because of how bad off I was. At this point I still thought it was scabies plus infection...I kept researching online and read about neem oil which was both antiparasitic and antibiotic/antiseptic. So I used the tiny bit of money I had (I was homeless and near-possessionless by this time) to rent a cheap motel room for a week and bought a large quantity of neem oil from an herb store. I diluted it with olive oil and would take a really hot shower, then cover my skin with the mix. I'd wait as long as I could stand and then crawl my way to the shower for another rinse/repeat. I could barely move around at all by this point and it was a truly ghastly experience. But the neem oil was definitely addressing the infection - pustules started going back to just being red spots and the bad ones ended up hardening up and with tweezers I'd pull them out - strands of hardened pus up to six inches in length pulled out of my tissues, which goes to show how bad the staph had gotten in a short time. But at the end of the week the original problem, the red itchy rash covering my body, was still not gone though it wasn't as bad.

Still very debilitated, I took refuge at a Krishna temple, where I studied spirituality and stuck to a strict vegetarian (not vegan) diet...I slowly recovered. Eventually it was back to being an annoying problem just in my joints again. After leaving California, I stayed vegetarian, my next health experiment was a macrobiotic diet, which I kept vegan. This was terrible, and my legs ended up getting really bad again. I ultimately discovered a correlation between eating rice and my skin issues. It didn't get completely better avoiding rice, but it stayed manageable. After the macrobiotic failure, I decided veganism was the problem, and turned to the Weston Price diet. I fared fairly well on that for a good while actually. But ultimately I was convinced to try raw veganism - I switched 100% overnight, and had great results. All health issues are completely gone. Now I'm stepping the game up to HCLF!

Thanks for the invite! I was thinking of starting another group, but really I dont have the time to dedicate thorough writing to it, and wouldnt want to stir the pot without being fully present in it, if that makes sense? I am coming to the conclusion that in many ways it is more positive to not get into too much politics on forums because it can be divisive and it has different levels of importance to each of us. For example my class politics/class struggle is so very important to me, such a big part of my life, that I cant quite think as clearly when I argue with people about it and become to emotional and quick to name call etc. I would love to have these conversations with people in person where you can see a persons intentions more and feel their spirit more without the risk of seeming angry over the internet.
