Durian and Jackfruit question? Please help!

I went to the Asian market local (Houston) to me yesterday and they had a huge selection of tropical fruit. I was superexcited to see they had fresh whole jackfruit (I paid about $17) and frozen pieces of durian ($6) as well as frozen whole durian ($10). I have no experience with these fruits whatsoever and despite a few googlesearches and forum searches here feel at a complete loss.  I realize that the whole fruit isn't yet ripe, that it isn't organic, and the durian has been irradiated. But…See More

Transitioning while pregnant, first trimester

I am finally out of the first trimester of pregnancy and although I fell off the wagon significantly for a few weeks there, I still managed to make most of my meals all fruit. I'm trying to stay positive and focused here... Anyhow, last weekend I went home for the weekend and our neighbors have an orange, grapefruit, and 2 different varieties lemon trees. They never pick the fruit and it usually falls to the ground and rots. Every winter I usually get a few pieces, but this weekend when I asked…See More

I've been flirting with vegan diet for several years and though I don't have many convictions it recently dawned on me that I can't contribute to the death or exploitation of a single living creature ever again. Even more recently, I've found a raw vegan diet to be my preference for flavor, ease of preparation, and creative expression;) Just looking to interact with like minded people.

I need inspiration and affirmation that what I am doing is going to get me where I want to be. I've been eating a fruit-based diet and have noticed my energy level go up and generally feel more motivated. I just want to make sure to keep this going and that nothing deters me from continuing on this path. I appreciate individuals who have been where I am and are where I want to be share their experience, it keeps me on track.

Too Much Water and Salt Cravings?

Posted on October 10, 2011 at 1:50am 1 Comment

I think sometimes I have a tendency to be extreme with certain pieces of good advice, like "making sure to drink enough water". I have been drinking a minimum of 64 ounces a day for the past couple of months and recently  attempted to double that, thinking more is better. What I think I've realized is that there is a such thing as "too much of a good thing", and that drinking all this water is not helping my salt cravings at all. I read about water toxicity and learned that drinking water in… Continue

Pregnancy related cravings!

Posted on September 30, 2011 at 5:05am 4 Comments

I couldn't understand why for the past week I was craving rice and pasta like crazy! I was getting a minimum of 2600 calories a day, and still desperately wanting anything starchy with tomatoe sauce.  I found out I am 4 weeks pregnant yesterday and am beginning to suspect that is why the cravings were so strong, maybe I need to take in a lot more calories to prepare my body for pregnancy?  The cool thing is that I will get to see how eating a fruit based diet makes me feel compared to how I…

I finally read THE book!

Posted on September 13, 2011 at 6:00am 4 Comments

I finally checked my mailbox yesterday and there was The 80/10/10 Diet waiting for me. I was so excited I immediately started reading it and have completed all the chapters and am working through the appendixes. Whenever I read a book for informational purposes I like to read it from cover to cover first and then go back and re-read the most compelling parts multiple times.

Anyway, before getting this book I though I could…

Dear Angela,

thank you.  30bad suggests we crave cooked foods because we're not getting enough calories.  That may be true for some, if they're undereating.  However, the book we're supposed to have read and follow is Dr.Graham's 80-10-10 who suggests very specific calorie consumption for one's height, weight and energy expenditure.  ,Dr.Graham's wife, Rozalind Gruben, explains cravings for cooked food as a desire for an emotional analgesic.  Cooked food allows one to not feel emotions as deeply. When someone begins 80-10-10, one can find the shock of feeling emotions so deeply very uncomfortable and they thus crave heavier, cooked foods to block those feelings.  If you want a second opinion on any 80-10-10 matter, you can ask Dr. Graham at http://www.vegsource.com/talk/raw/index.html

With love, Bronwyn
