Today I have arrived on WATERMELON ISLAND baby!

Posted on June 3, 2013 at 10:55am 0 Comments

Oh wow, guys. The past few days my body has been feeling kinda crazy, and I've been knowing that I need to do something different. I ate some kale the other day and I felt absolutely ugghh afterwards, belly hurt, and very acidic in my throat and chest. A few hours later I threw up, and then later I ate a watermelon and felt a lot better. Every time I eat watermelon I always feel amazing, and its the only fruit I feel that way about right now. Yesterday I started the day with a large…

Making some sacrifices, but I feel good about it

So lately it seems like it's been this weird struggle to actually have all the fruit we need to eat all the time in my house (my sister and I are both 8/10/10) and we have been fully raw for a few months now. We really have been stubborn about wanting to eat organic, but lately it seems like its more a waste of money than anything. We realized we could get really good fruit from wholesalers in Pittsburgh's Strip District so we're gonna start getting mangoes and tropical fruits from there.…

The best way would be to fly from Cancun to Puerto Vallarta using a domestic flight.  Driving or busing that would take too long.  Tell us why you want to go to the Yucatan region?  For the beauty? I like that region of Mexico also, including south of that the Chiapas region is actually one of the most lush and green regions.  Just be careful as there is a zone in the south west yucatan and north Guatemala which i eternally rainy, no dry season.  Might be ok for some but I am not a big fan of cloudy days, I do prefer it bit dryer with sunshine.

Amanda, jobs in Central America pay $10 to 15 a day and there is a shortage of them.  It would be much better to work up north as long as you can or to do some over time during the summer & fall and to save up that way.  Even doing business is challenging because people have little money in Central America and often they can't pay or they expect cheap prices.  If we can figure out how to make a part time business that would generate income of even just $50/day we would be set.  It can be done in the tourist season in Puerto Vallarta I imagine.  We could sell tickets to attraction events to tourists but it is challenging as everyone else is doing it too.  I think we could do something else, offer coconut juice fasting & or offer water fasting or raw food mentorship to North Americans who want to escape into warmth and get basic education about this lifestyle.  Offer room and board and education for say $99/day.  Higher rate than the raw vegans because they would get 2 or 3 hours of teaching per day.  Maybe you can brain storm some ideas yourself.  Marketing is the issue.

Hi Amanda.  Thanks for your input, looks like you had fun giving us your ideas.  It looks like we are on the same page.  I like to be by the ocean with coconuts and a Hot climate even if it means sweating during the mid day heat.  Puerto Rico I don't know much about other than that the people are tied with Mexicans by being #1 happiest people on earth.  I did hear that it is an oppressed economy down there but then again Mexico and Central America is in similar situation.  It would limit us as it is an island and I would not be able to bring my vehicle down there.  It is a very good idea to have a car in the tropics as it is hot, there are big distances, and we don't want to be carrying stuff on our backs on our vacation.  Maybe you could research it a bit Amanda, see if Puerto Rico is a nice suitable location. Lukas  Ok So it looks like we have an interest of few people to come down for at least a few weeks, that is great because I know it will just grow from here.

Hi & Welcome Brothers & Sisters ( Kati, Amanda, Frugisaurus, Joe and anyone viewing this blog )

It is nice to see all of you interested in an affordable raw vegan community in healthy tropical climate.  I skipped 4.5 winters on my 9 year health journey and I have come to realize that a healthy climate is vitally important as it affects so many aspects of our lifestyle.  When I go down south to skip a winter my health & happiness is elevated instead of compressed by winter.  This is because our human body has many needs in order to function at a high health level.  Eg, sunshine on your skin, fresh air on your skin, warmth surrounding your body, nectar like fruits fueling your body, warm oceans lakes and creeks to enjoy in, fresh outdoor air to breath all day long, to be outdoors most of the day instead of stuck in a house hiding from the sub zero temperatures, listen to natural sounds of animals, plants, and waves.

So far all I have seen is expensive unaffordable retreats, festival, and communities where you have to pay $200/day, buy into a $70 000 share like the Hawaii one or where you 2/3 of the day just so you get room and board.

I got a different plan, lets choose a nice tropical location safe and comfortable, lets rent a house or two aince they are only $300 to $600 a month or less. Lets a flight ticket or for those with adventure in your heart carpool down.  Lets enjoy the ocean, lakes, creeks, local people, local towns, build connections with local farmers who will supply us with food.  Lets brink our books and learn and grow, lets bring our hammocks kindness peacefulness and intelligence and lets at least create a community that thrives for the winter months (November to May) if not whole year.

I don't know about you but I realized that I want a different kind of life where I want to be happy year round and I can't be happy in winter when half my bodily needs are impossible to meet, I want to be healthy year round and for life and I can't do this half the year because in Canada half the year my body can't get what it needs and is suffocating in 3 to 5 layers of clothing and consuming tropical fruits which are a shadow of the real thing.

So the idea is to build an affordable $20/30 a day community, a micro community not with a million hectars of land but simply a large hause or a few cabins mingled in or next to local town of friendly warm people.  With a car and or bike so we have freedom to go check out beaches waterfalls lakes, town and more.
