Comment by Chris P. on June 7, 2012 at 1:29pm I did a peach island last summer, about 2 weeks, I was crazy for peaches and there were so many at nearby farm stands. But you have to eat a TON to get in the calories! Also have done watermelon, because it becomes something I just crave like crazy when they're in season around here. Not too long though maybe a week, because It's hard to eat that much volume all the time. Bananas I like, I'm not 100% sure I like them enough to mono on though. I eat a lot of bananas and dates.
Yes! Those discount bananas are a treat. The stares from the cart overloaded with fruit are pretty great as well haha.
I do the same with the naners in freezing them for later use. My saving grace is dates but I'd like to be less dependent.
Have you done a "banana island" or another monomeal for an extended period of time?
Comment by Chris P. on June 7, 2012 at 11:08am The ones on the left are a little closer...... I hate waiting! LOL! I typically overbuy when I see a bunch of "overripe" bananas in the store and they charge less for them! Yay! :)
If I can't get to them all, I peel them and stick them into gallon freezer bags and put them in the freezer for smoothies when I'm in a jam and have run out of ripe, room temperature bananas to eat. I also typically have a giant bag of frozen strawberries and blueberries for the same purpose.
Frozen is not ideal, but I'd rather have a cold smoothie than nothing to eat or go eat some grains or something. Also when I make a smoothie from frozen stuff, I often use water hot from the tap, which helps thaw the frozen stuff without cooking it.
Needs more time to ripen...
