I want to start free running or parkour. I don't know where or how to start. Does anyone have advice or their start experiences?Continue
I agree with Robert. Learning from someone with experience is a good idea. I've learned much more quickly by training with a group and by observation than by myself. I also get more motivation to try challenging things (like scary precision jumping, especially above the ground) when I'm with other people. The only problem I've had is that I'm usually the only female amongst a group of up about 5-15 males. Occasionally there is one other female there (she's great!). It is nice to train with females because I feel more comfortable trying the moves they can do, since our body energies are more the same.
Dear Anastasia, i think too the way Robert write about taking a class. I am still doing on my own, but i know, i have to go to a class.

I recommend trying to find a class. Although you can learn by yourself, a coach will let you learn a lot faster. I tried to learn from books and videos for a long time, and then signed up for a class with a great coach (Matthew Lee Willis here in Austin) and learned much more rapidly.
Although gymnastics is of course a great start, the parkour philosophy is to go as directly toward you goal as you can. So if you want to learn parkour, study parkour, not gymnastics, unless you have no other choice.
(I am, btw, a beginner, and not very good compared to the much younger men who took the class with me. But I still learned a great deal and intend to repeat the class soon.)
Oh My God, I am so happy there is a group such as this. I started training parkour with a group at the local university where I live. It is the most instinctually pleasing movement ever. It's the perfect balance between stationary pleasure (yoga) and moving pleasure (running); it's better than either. I love cat crawling and jumping through rail bars (I'm short).
OMG I just stumbled upon this-totally feels so joyous and right! Anyone know how to start learning? looks like gymnastics are a good way to start?
