is there anyone out there who can give me some tips on how to transition from a cooked food + meat diet to an all raw/vegan 811 diet while still maintaining my bikram yoga practice? i would be SO grateful!!!!!
Just do it! Transitioning can take as long as you want, but it really takes no time at all. It all depends on how 'attached' you are to that previous lifestyle. Yes, there may be days when you don't feel so good, but when I ate SAD in my early 20s, I pretty much felt crappy all the time. As for maintaining a yoga practice, the key is eating enough calories (and it's probably more than you think--2500 to 3000 in fruit alone or more) and also to have enough sense to not push too hard when your body says it needs rest. Remember, the body is far wiser than us. On days when I feel that I overdid it the day before (cycling really hard, or not eating enough the day before) I'll take the time to meditate longer and/or practice yin yoga (which I've found helps to bring more awareness to what's really going on inside). Good luck on your journey!
You can do it! First of all go vegan, for your health, the planet and for all the animals. Yoga is very much geared towards a vegetarian diet anyway. It is part of yoga philosophy to avoid cruelty so give up animal flesh first. Then give up dairy products as they are also cruel but also very bad for your health. Then you will feel better both physically and mentally. Your yoga practice will improve too. Add tons of fresh fruit and greens into your diet and you will be nearly there. Make sure you get enough calories every day to fuel your workouts so concentrate on bananas and dates for energy. Good luck : ))
811 is perfect for your yoga practice, you will feel a lot more flexible than ever before, thats a guarantee. Eating cooked food especially meat makes the body quite stiff. I personally experience this with my body within days, of switch from cooked foods to raw vegan foods. Check out http://www.ishafoundation.org/ for some truly tradition form of yogic practices that are rarely ever taught to the western world. The practices that I learned from them made my transition to raw a lot easier since its gear towards strengthening your internal energy or prana. When I first tried raw foods 3 yrs (coming from a Chinese background we cook everything) I can barely eat a salad without hurting my stomach because my digestive system was that weak from cooked foods, now I can eat 811 style all day long!!!
that's EXACTLY the inspiration i was looking for!! THANKS so much, everyone!! 30BAD people really care! :)
thanks again, and i'll keep posted how i am progressing..
p.s.--i've heard of banana island, but being cooked at the moment bananas don't seem to be the right thing for me..can i substitute watermelon instead? like watermelon island?
Its like DR and Freelee say: if you don't get enough carbs from fruit, you will want to go toward a denser calorie source.
The great thing about practicing Bikram Yoga and 811 is that you will feel SO hydrated and enerized during class, and you will be able to get more out of class as far as the immense health benefits.
Stay VERY hydrated; I drink about 4-6 liters a day. Be sure you are getting some sodium from your greens; avoid having sea salt if possible and have celery, for example, instead.
Have plenty of water rich foods. Freshly pressed mandarin or orange juice, banana mylk ( organic bananas and water blended), and dataorade ( dates and water blended) are all awesome options.
Following 811 and Bikram Yoga is a great way to take care of your health. Bikram Choudhury knows more about yoga than anyone alive, and his series works in the hot room, or outdoors with his CD.
Change your life for the better and love the lifestyle! Your appearance will change from the inside out; once the body, brain, internal organs etc. are flushed with freash blood and hyperoxygenated, you will be able to get the maximum energy you desire on a cellular level.
I find sleeping on the floor ( in a sleeping bag or with blankets) is exellent for circulation, and for the spine. Fancy matresses mangle the spine and do not allow the spine to distribute proper nutrition and energy throughout the body as you sleep.
You will probably normalize your weight, sleep better, look better, digest better, and live better with this lifestyle.
HYDRATE. WATER RICH FRUIT. GOOD SLEEP. HYPEROXYGENATION. HEALTHY SPINE!!!
I LoVe Bikram Yoga! It's so amazing, and I feel that I practice better while eating 811. I can stretch deeper and breath a whole lot better. Just listen to your body - the majority of the time I don't even feel hungry after my practice...and I don't even need water throughout my session either. Eating a high fruit diet hydrates the body amazingly. Just keep taking it day by day. Drink lots of coconut water, I know that has helped me a lot. Good Luck!
yep, just do it! It is really not that big of deal. Eat dense foods or really whatever your heart desires on the 811 plan. Banana smoothies are a good way to transition if you like bananas - the smoothies are really yummy and dates are in season. Make sure you get some big green salads in too. Get some melons before they are phased out if you like them. Do it. Raw veganism and yoga compliment each other.
