Recommended reading for 100% natural skincare makers and BUY beauty enthusiasts

Just a shameless plug for my book The Holistic Beauty Book - packed with 100% natural recipes for skincare using organic, fairtrade and plant-based ingredients. [NOTE: I wrote this book 5 years ago before I went 100% vegan, out of 100 recipes 4 do contain beeswax and honey. Candelilla wax is a natural plant wax that can be substitued for beeswax and glycerine is a plant-based substitute for honey. The other 96 recipes in the book are 100% vegan and are labelled as such. Apologies if I caused anyone offence on this group]

Hi! I recently found a recipe for Sun Protection oil which is quite simple. All you'll need is

25ml sesame seed oil

25ml lanolin (I think you can also use beeswax or cocoanut oil instead)

75ml dandelion tea or elder flower tea

Melt lanolin and oil, slowly add herb infusion and mix well. Bottle and apply liberally to the skin.

Hope this helps! Hugs, Sarah

Hi Lena, Really sorry but I don't have any experience with make-up etc as I've never actually worn any in my whole life.

Have you checked out 100% pure?  I only use their stuff. It's all vegan and they even use fruit and tea to pigment their products!  I've had great experiences with their stuff, including their mascara.

Thanks Poodle Doodle Doo and Hayley Zedel.

I'm going to let my roots grow out for a little while as my current colour is not too dis-similar, and try Chamomile tea in the mean time! Maybe even some lemon juice? though I worry that will dry it out?

Yes, i had to give up my Gwen Stefani blonde locks too! ... bleaching doesn't do wonders for fine hair at all.. not to mention the body and environment. Those poor hair dresser's dipping their hands in chemicals all day long!

Henna red will NOT work for me, as I have a pink skin tone - I also understand that it should only be used on virgin hair (that has not been dyed at all).

I WOULD be interested in any natural, vegan hair products that work and work well!

Please send me a link Hayley and I'll check it out. What are you fav products? I don't want any bee products either... like wax or honey which I know is in a lot of natural' cosmetics. Bee farms sound pretty nasty. Know of a decent mascara that fits into the vegan chemical free category?

Hi, Loulou. Great to hear about how It's like for you with the hair. It's so good and comfortable to hear from others who is experiencing similar things, so that I know I'm not alone. I'm experiencing great changes these days and It's truly amazing how my body is signalizing in so many different ways how It just love me back for how I am treating it now. When It comes to make-up. Do you have any great experience with any products like shadow, rouge,eye-liner and mascara. These are the only product I would like to use every now and then. But It has to be clean - 'cause what we put on also goes within us. That is at least my belief. I am very satisfied with how great I am taking care of myself now. So the make-up products I still want to use from time to time is what I would love to find out more of. Like wher to buy it. I'm not sure if something really clean of make-up products excists in Norway. I haven't found anything I yet. Happy to hear from others. Lena

Although I've never coloured my hair, I haven't washed it with shampoo for over a year now.  I stopped a year last August.  At first I put lemon juice on dry hair then rinsed it off, then I heard about baking soda/apple cider vinegar as a shampoo and conditioner, so now I use that once every couple of weeks.  My hair is a lot fuller than it used to be (used to be really thin and mousy) and more blonde.  I'm actually going to the hairdresser today, but will go with my hair wet then she doesn't have to put her toxic procucts on there.
