30 Bananas a Day!

New Generation Produce
718-222-8739
195 Lombardy St.
Brooklyn NY

Open 7 Days a week.
This place has everything you would find in China Town, but for a LOT less (can anything cost less outside of chinatown??? - YES!). Andrew is one of the owners, and he knows about '30BananasADay.com' so he knows that anyone who comes from 30bad is looking for the 'best' and the 'deals' (he doesn't come in on sundays). Andrew is a super nice guy - very friendly, speaks perfect english and will HOOK YOU UP! I just got back from a visit and picked up 3 cases of pomogranates for $5. a case! (maybe 3 out of the 20 weren't good anymore). I got a 30lb case of clementines for $10. - they are epic good. Got my strawberry papaya fix (9 in a case for $13.50),.... they have everything - ask for the 'deals' if you are on a budget, or you can get the 15lb case of mangosteen for $70. if you spend on fruit with no abandon like me!

UPDATED video and text on July 2010
If you really want to eat a fruitarian diet and you live outside of a tropical environment where fruit grows year round, then you'll have to learn to shop at wholesalers.
Unless you are really wealthy, shopping at supermarkets will be a huge financial strain on your diet.
For a lot of new people trying a fruitarian diet, the greatest long term issue that they will be faced with is finding affordable fruit.
Shopping at wholesalers is fun, fresh and economical - check out how I shop for my produce!

We have Organic Raspberries, Blueberries, and Blackberries in the frozen section at the Costco here, pretty cheap too! (~$3/lb).
Awesome Video Mike! and Awesome information, thanks a bunch. I 'm going there for sure!

Anybody look at Hunts Point's wholesale spot price quotes online?  What does the number next to the fruit name mean?  E.g.,

Orange, CA 40

Orange, CA 72

Apple, Gala 42

Apple, Gala 88

Where can I get Organic Bananas in BULK here in NYC?? I called New Generation Produce and they said they don't have them. Anybody? Thanks

Okay I've called around and asked a bunch of places here, including Whole Foods, Fairway, FreshDirect, OrganicDirect, and some others. I *think* 4th Street Food Co-op sounds willing to order extra cases of bananas for me (they buy only Organic Fair-Trade), and I'm wondering if anybody else is interested? How many cases/week could you handle?

please respond on this thread: http://www.30bananasaday.com/group/nycandvicinity/forum/topics/bulk...

Trader Joes 22nd and 6th 29 cents a banana, you can get a box of 100, organic

I live on Long Island - east.

I normally look for deals in local stores, order online and also go to Brooklyn once in a while for frozen durian, papayas etc..
Cosco here has organic spring mix for around $4.50 per 1 lb box.
I also found a local wholesale place. They do not stock anything organic, except bananas, but I can order organic oranges thru them for about $31-39 per box, depending on current market, variety etc.

I am still looking for wholesale organics suppliers, are there any on LI?

I live in Orange County, and I dont have a wholesaler close by I live about an hour and 30min from the city. Should I take trips to the city to buy in bulk? Right now I just buy as much fruit as I can at one time from regular grocery stores, but I know its costing me more. Any advice?

Been there, a great place, definately worth the trip for sure!
