- Ashley, from the picture I think you should plant a windbreak of local easy to grow, preferably not too tall shrubs and trees to protect your young orchard all around the site.

I am sure I did this backwards with planting fruit trees before swales but I got excited and I am waiting on money to buy the small scale permaculture book..but its a start!
