Comment by evergreen on June 27, 2012 at 7:51am Hi Vicki! I'll be at Ka'anapali Beach in West Maui.
Comment by Vicki Sorenson on June 26, 2012 at 4:26pm Hey Evergreen,
Where on Maui will you be staying? Mana Foods in Paia is very reliable and well priced. I get all my fruit, however, at the farmer's market in lower Kula on Saturday morning. Keep in touch!
Comment by evergreen on June 26, 2012 at 11:23am Hi all! I'm going to be vacationing in Maui early August. Any suggestions for the best place(s) to get fruit, places I must see, etc... would be greatly appreciated! I've never been to Hawaii and I'm soooo excited! :D
Comment by Allyourwatermelonarebelongtome on May 6, 2012 at 9:23am Papayas are pretty easy to come by here at the market, another reason I was eating a lot of them as I could easily get plenty of ripe ones. Tried bananas once or twice, harder to get them ripe and seemed like they had to be really progressed to be properly ripe (first ones I ate were fairly dark skinned, but still too starchy). And I plan on being around for a while, unless circumstances move me elsewhere for some reason. Not sure what approach I want to take towards GMO, but I'd at the least want to protect organic farmers from being sued and perhaps give them the power to sue for being contaminated! Definitely against the patenting of life forms.
Comment by Ender Ayanethos on May 1, 2012 at 10:23am Hey guys, ever wonder how much it costs to eat fruit? I did a little work and put together a cost analysis for us. You can find the post here: http://www.endersadventures.com/Hawaii-organic-fruit-cost-analysis....
Comment by Ender Ayanethos on April 30, 2012 at 6:49pm Yeah, sucks doesn't it? They will make it seem like they are organic, but you have to be very very clear about your asking and look them straight in the eye when you do. Ask clearly multiple times and in different ways when in doubt. People who grow organic will look like they eat only organic foods and put off a different vibe. Replace your GMO papayas with bananas, as they're a lot easier to come by.
Also, we were talking about starting a campaign to make the big island a GMO free zone. Don't know how long you'll be around here, but it's definitely something I'm looking to help make happen in the near future.

Just read that, seems I've definitely eaten some gmo papaya and that 'solo' variety is what I should stick to and avoid strawberry/rainbow/sunrise varieties. I hate Monsanto, so long as that company stands this country isn't free and its farmers are in danger.
Comment by Allyourwatermelonarebelongtome on April 30, 2012 at 12:57pm Someone warned me about potential GMO in the papaya at the market! EEK! And I look into it a little and seems they introduced a lot of it and if I read correctly ALL Rainbow Papaya are GMO!? I've been eating a ton of GMO from the Kailua-Kona 6 day market. One lady said hers were organic and another said probably (bulls***ter, didn't have any idea or knew they weren't). Haven't asked the 3rd I frequent yet, but I find these people hard to trust and was wondering what the deal is with papaya here? They're so cheap they've been my staple for over a month and seems I may be jacking myself up. Not sure what to do cost wise if I remove these from my diet. Thanks for any help!
