how is the weather like there? is it always t-shirt and shorts, or do some days a bit chilly? is the climate mostly dry, or with humidity?

Hi there! I got my Hawaii WWWOOF guide awhile back but have been moving kinda slow with narrowing down which farms look most promising. Was thinking I'd just send an email forward to all of them and see who responds. But I'd love to hear which 10 you've decided are most "legit" and what criteria you used to decide that. You got me curious :)
Permalink Reply by Kevin E on July 19, 2011 at 8:36am hi joce, i have been reading all the farms sites like
while using google and google maps to search for information regarding the farms from other wwoofers, and looking for farms actual websites. basically any information possible.
I have gained some knowledge of how the islands seem to be structured, aswell as where the majority of farms are located.
I'm looking for a farm that focuses on sustainability, organic farming techniques, and fruits and vegetables.
I want to be part of a community, and not alone in my wwoofing experience. Surfing, yoga, exploring and all kinds of sports/activities. Mainly I'm looking to work hard in learning about organic farming in return for a place to live and fresh fruit and veg to sustain myself on. Obviously i'm looking for a farm that specifically has a focus on fruit trees and green gardening.
There is a lot of information to sort through and ive been researching for like 3 days for a few hours each day. It seems on Big Island south of Hilo seems to be a lot of good farms. So i know if one isnt working out so well, I can have easy access to other farms in the area to learn from. There are good farms everywhere! but south of hilo had like 5 or 6 that i really liked around that area.

That's so cool that you've weeding through the options in such a focused way. Not sure why I haven't done similar yet (well other than gathering info here and there, just not in a particularly quick, focused way), as I've been daydreaming about Hawaii for at least a couple years now. Would you be willing to share?
That's cool you're using sites beyond just the WWWOOF site.
One thing I noticed tonight is a place called Hedonisia. I looked up Hawaii jobs on idealist.org and some came up there. I think it's in a real hippie-ish section of Big Island, which sounds good to me. Just wanna know if it's a safe, good place before traveling all that way to it.
Anyone reading know much about Hedonisia?
