I have been on this raw path for about 2 years and high fruit for a year. I am quite active on this forum and so I had decided to get my bloods done as I have heard through here that B12 is such a tricky vitimin. I went to the doctor today to get my approval today. It is quite different to the blood tests that other people on this forum get as, in nz they only test for b12, maginesem and iron nothing else. I call them so that I can hear the numbers. Has anyone else in NZ done b12 tests before or done b12 injections.

Hi Sarah,
Nice to 'meet' a fellow kiwi :0).
I have had B12 tests a couple of times through the Canterbury District Health Board (I live in Christchurch). I got my results via a doctor I see at the hospital.
You say that for your tests you will only get the numbers. Did the doctor give you advice for putting the numbers into context?
Bye for now,
LH.

The doctor didn't give me advice for putting the numbers into context but I assumed that I would use this forum. He will advice me if it is abnormal but since I want a better understanding of it than that I will read the discussions that have been posted on this forum. Since I wasn't going to get a printed sheet I was a bit disappointed but excited to get the results on Tuesday.
Permalink Reply by 811Vegan on April 5, 2012 at 3:52pm I decided that having read all the info about B12 on this website I should get some B12 injections. So, I rang the doctor (for the first time - I am never ill) and they insisted on a blood test first. So, I had a blood test and they told me that my B12 levels were OK. I insisted that, as a vegan, I take it as a precaution so the doctor agreed to 1 injection every 6 months. I am due another injection in a couple of months.
I would be interested in getting my blood work done at some point but have no idea what to ask for. Any ideas what you ask for here in NZ? I want a printed sheet with all the numbers on it so I have a reference for future tests.
Permalink Reply by Sarah on April 5, 2012 at 5:00pm I was also inspired by this website and did the same.
I have since learned that it is almost impossible to get blood work in NZ they will just do B12, Iron and Magnesium unless you are in Hospital but your GP can't ask for it.
MY b12 WAS 172 which was just under the NZ minium of 200 so I he wanted to double check them so I will go for another blood test in a few weeks to double check that they weren't just low because my body was fighting a virus. It probely was as I'm a Kindy teacher and we are exposed to every thing. I wanted that printed sheet but I'm not going to keep going back to the doctors as each time it costs me 77dollars.
If is is still under 200 in a few weeks he will give me B12. I
I was thinking of just getting it off the internet and getting a friend to inject me
