Well, I like to think "a case a day" but it depends a lot on what the fruit is.  I probably realistically go through four or five cases of fruit most weeks (I haven't been eating anything but fruit for several months, but am probably going to start eating more greens).  You can find a lot of sites online that tell you average number of calories in fruits, and use that as a guide along with how many come in a case.  It's better to buy too little, and need to supplement with stuff from the store, than to have too much fruit to eat going bad in your house - that's no fun at all (there's been a couple times I've been too overzealous).

Thanks Tara and Casey!

Tara, I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet but wow, it's such a cool idea!

Casey, thanks for the info.  I'm completely new to this.  Only started thinking about it 3 weeks ago, one of those weeks I was on vacation and the others, I have scoured the internet for information.  I just go my 80/10/10 book the other day!  I'm totally interested in splitting cases.  Can you give me an idea of how much fruit and greens you eat in one week?  I want to make sure I get enough so I can stick to it but not so much that it goes bad.  Not to mention, I dont want to waste money as I'm afraid my grocery bill will be more than I'm use to but I feel it is worth it!  I've been sick with chronic lyme and bartonella for nearly 4 years.  I've tried everything and after much research believe this could be the answer I am looking for.

I've heard of the place in Jessup.  I'm in Hagerstown, but I think I'll try it sometime.  For the past few years, I've been running my own produce co-op/buying club out of my garage.  I get wholesale produce from Tuscarora Organic Growers in PA (local stuff) and from Four Seasons Produce (supplies grocery chains).  It's been great, but my organizational energy is running low, so I'm starting to look for other options to keep my family in good produce!  But, starting your own buying club is always an option, too, if you have time to organize it.  If you're interested in getting started with something like that, message me... I'll share my experiences.  :-)

Welcome Jami! I work in Columbia and buy nearly all my food at Class Produce in Jessup near 175 and 32. Email Tina and ask for a copy of their inventory/price list sent out every Monday morning (TSulewski@classproduce.com) and any other details you want. Then you just write back and say when you wanna come buy and pick up (can be the same day). Everything is by the case and cash-only. They have an organic spreadsheet as well as conventional. If you ever want to split cases of any organic fruit, I'm down!

Hi all,  I'm very new to the whole LCRV lifestyle.  Still transitioning but feel deep down this is the right choice for me.  I've skimmed through all the posts but was hoping you guys that are more seasoned might be able to help me.  I live in the Ellicott City/Columbia MD area and was wondering where a person might purchase bulk fruits and veggies for cheaper than the grocery store.  I would love any tips, advice and/or to be included in any bulk order groups you guys have going.  Thanks!

Hi Noel! I'm in Arlington, so still pretty far away. Haven't heard of anyone out your way yet, but hopefully someone will surface.

Hello Everyone,

I live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia but, am relatively close to DC and make several trips there a year.  Is anyone else in Northern Virginia (Winchester area) or West Virginia?

I've got commitments the next 4 weekends, and possibly beyond, so probably won't make it. But I'll keep an eye on the plans just in case. Thanks to Erin and Casey for getting the ball rolling!

I can't get to Woodstock either.  Depending on where your land is, we might be able to go.  Either way, would love to see all of you.

I could host such an event - I've got a couple acres of backyard in the country...plenty of room for camping, enjoying sun, and eating fruit. :). A few miles up the road is Catoctin state park with hiking trails and rafting possibilities, for groups that want to get out more into nature.

Got a horseshoe game setup, a net for badminton or volleyball or whatever else, a cricket set, and some other stuff. People could bring more outdoor activities. :)

I was hoping to go to Woodstock but don't think it's actually going to work out. :/
