Comment by Moon on January 13, 2012 at 8:36am Hey guys... anyone near Nosara area? Or what is close to there that I can scoot around to?!?
Comment by Tropical Raw on January 8, 2012 at 2:59pm Hi, I got a car in Costa Rica and made once the way from Upala to Cahuita, that means it is pretty much the same way you want to go. That day I was lucky and not in a traffic jam or for 20 miles behind a very slow truck (what happens often). With a break of one and a half hour I needed 13 hours (a bit more than from dusk till dawn).
There is no direct connection from Liberia to the southern caribbean so you have to change the bus in San José. I guess with buses you need 15 hours at least. The streets are one of the the worst of the Americas and for this reason the average travel speed is under 30 miles per hour. If it is possible at all depends wether there is a bus that leaves Liberia very early and arrives just in time for a connection bus in San José where you have to change the terminal which is in a different part of the downtown.
I recommend the same as Via. It doesn't make sense to go to the caribbean if you are only 1 week in CR.
Theoretically you could fly from Liberia to San Jose and from San Jose to Limon (+Bus/taxi to your final destination). The flights should cost around $200-250 one way per person. In this case you could reduce your travel time to 5 or 6 hours. I never made an inland flight in CR.
Maybe this helps:

but forget the length mentioned in the schedule. The are more than unrealistic.
Daniel, it might work out for us at our place for a couple of nights. We too are in Ojochal, but your travel plans seem to be in a different direction. People don't realize just how big Costa Rica is-the size of the UK and how long it takes to travel by chicken bus, which makes many, many stops around the country, especially traveling from Liberia which is the north Pacific to the sloth sanctuary (0ver one day's travel) which is the south Caribbean-and you're only here for a week!!! Perhaps, a visit to Montezuma, Cabuya and the Rainsong sanctuary in that area would be more doable for the short time you're here.
Hope this helps.
Comment by Catherine Forest on January 3, 2012 at 9:36pm Daniel, I would have been happy to have you over (we even have a great guest bedroom with private bath!), but my mom is here until Jan. 30th. Are your tickets already booked?
I would be happy to help you plan your trip. I think the Osa Peninsula (Corcovado national park) is a must! I have also been told that if you had to pay for only one tour, La Paz waterfall gardens was the one to go to (near the Poas volcano): http://www.waterfallgardens.com/
Let me know if I can be of any help. Too bad the timing is not great. I could have shown you our secret spots (beaches and waterfalls) here on the Pacific coast (we are in Ojochal).
Comment by Daniel on January 3, 2012 at 8:11pm Hey friends! I will be visiting Costa Rica for a week(January 22nd-29th) and was wondering if any fellow fruit lovers might have a spare bed or floor for 2 friendly guests(myself and my friend Liliya). We are going to travel a bit, so each place we may potentially stay at would only be for a night or 2.... We would be happy to pay a small fee for your hospitality. :)
We are flying in to Liberia and would need a place to crash there when we arrive and again towards the end of our trip. We plan to head towards San Jose and then down to the Sloth Sanctuary(30 kilometers south of Limon). We have not planned our route back towards Liberia, so are open to suggestions.
Any help would be deeply appreciated, so get in touch!
Much love,
Daniel

Take care,

Hi Catherine,
where are you staying? I am going to come down over Christmas break and will visit a few places between San Isidro and Dominical between Christmas and New Years. Let me know if you want to meet and share experiences.
