So depite my awful dining hall, I have been raw for 5 days, today is day 5. I was about 80% raw vegan for a month before now finally doing 100%. I didn't want to wait until the semester was over and blame my dining hall for me not being able to do it, because I can it's just I have to buy my own fruit. The most difficult part of being a raw vegan is the social aspect. Now that my semester will be over soon, there will be a lot of "end of semester" parties. I am the type of person that I would rather not have to go to these gatherings and explain myself to people why I eat this way because that would be too stressful for me and I don't like to be the center of attention when it comes to my lifestyle choices. I don't like to get criticized for it lol, who would.

Also, since we are all college students, do you all get enough sleep? I find that a lot of activities take place at night and sometimes go late, or I have homework and an exam to study for. The worst part is though when I want to go to bed because I know that I will work much better the next day, but my friends are saying I am always going to bed so early and "not living" life. To me personally, living my life happens when I have energy and that means I get enough sleep by going to bed earlier. I always don't want to kill my social life but at the same time my health is on the line. And I'm not saying I never stay up late to hangout with friends, but when they want to do it daily or very often that's what I am not okay with.

I know I should probably find some like minded people, but any tips and advice with the sleep and socializing aspects? Wouldn't life just be easier if we all could have 811 clubs and parties ? ;)

@ Rachel Fleming and Udoka Omenukor, those are both such great ideas ! Thank you!

@Jasmine, tell me about the always unripe fruit!!! the bananas are always green and they don't let me take any fruit out of the dining hall so naturally i don't eat the bananas. the only fruit that is passable are the oranges, because the apples are so waxed and the pears are as hard as baseballs -_- lol.

@ Nathan H., I am a music education major ! I play piano and sing, but for my major I am on the vocal/choral track =)

And I go to The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), but I live very close to NYC. Anyone else from the NJ/NY area ?!

Kayla-  Raaahhhhh!  I got so sick of the exact same thing(+bread such suuuper staples right?  no.).  Thank goodness there are a lot of farm stands in Philly that sell cheap&awesome produce.  Check out that scene in your area!

Derrick- I'm from Jersey!  I'm on RU campus quite a bit because I have a few friends who go/live around there.  It's a great school in a great area, in my opinion.  Also like I said, I go to school in Philly so yaa NE!

Does anyone go to College here in the NE? I am going to start attending Rutgers in the Fall 12 Session.

hellooo representing temple u in philly!  i'm currently in the process of withdrawing to pursue other options, but i still live basically on campus and all my roommates/friends are students so hope i can still discuss experiences here.  i can completely relate to all the dining hall problems, ours hardly even has COOKED vegan options =[

I studied Math and Philosophy. I am going to get my masters in nutrition. I think I might be the only one who stays up late eating fruit and green smoothies.

@Agnes, find out who the school dietician is and set up a meeting with her to explain your diet and your needs as a student. She will take you seriously and fight to get you more fruits!

@Nathan I was thinking about it but decided against it.  I still love music and play guitar all the time.  What instrument do you play?

Hey hey!  This is great that there is a group for college students going raw.  The dining halls SUCK SO BAD.  It completely does not accommodate to raw vegans that well.  The salad bar is fine, but as for fruit, there are usually three types: bananas, apples, and oranges (pears occasionally).  Not only is that a limited selection, but most of the fruit is NEVER ripe.  When I pick the brown and speckled bananas, my friends think I like to eat rotten bananas.  Anyways, I buy my own :)  It can be socially isolating, but it's a whole lot better than being an unhealthy mess!
