hellooo representing temple u in philly!  i'm currently in the process of withdrawing to pursue other options, but i still live basically on campus and all my roommates/friends are students so hope i can still discuss experiences here.  i can completely relate to all the dining hall problems, ours hardly even has COOKED vegan options =[

I studied Math and Philosophy. I am going to get my masters in nutrition. I think I might be the only one who stays up late eating fruit and green smoothies.

@Agnes, find out who the school dietician is and set up a meeting with her to explain your diet and your needs as a student. She will take you seriously and fight to get you more fruits!

@Nathan I was thinking about it but decided against it.  I still love music and play guitar all the time.  What instrument do you play?

Hey hey!  This is great that there is a group for college students going raw.  The dining halls SUCK SO BAD.  It completely does not accommodate to raw vegans that well.  The salad bar is fine, but as for fruit, there are usually three types: bananas, apples, and oranges (pears occasionally).  Not only is that a limited selection, but most of the fruit is NEVER ripe.  When I pick the brown and speckled bananas, my friends think I like to eat rotten bananas.  Anyways, I buy my own :)  It can be socially isolating, but it's a whole lot better than being an unhealthy mess!

Agnes,

I had a friend who wrote to her institution and asked to not have to pay for the meal plan because of 'dietary needs' and they did not require her to pay for it. Maybe next time, you can write a letter to whomever about your dietary needs (maybe you can get an MD to support your cause and give you an excuse) and see if you can get out of paying for that. It is cheaper to pay for your own food anyway. :)

Hey everyone! I am so excited to see that I am not the only one in this age group trying to be a LFRV ! It can be difficult in this day and age especially with social gatherings, if you know what i mean ! In my case, there's not much fruit at the dining hall at my college. It stinks that I have to pay for all the other "junk" food when I don't eat it and they barely provide what I do eat. Anyways, it's so great that I finally found a community of like minded people ! I'm excited and this is very encouraging for me to keep up the lifestyle seeing that I'm not alone ! =)
