I had a friend who wrote to her institution and asked to not have to pay for the meal plan because of 'dietary needs' and they did not require her to pay for it. Maybe next time, you can write a letter to whomever about your dietary needs (maybe you can get an MD to support your cause and give you an excuse) and see if you can get out of paying for that. It is cheaper to pay for your own food anyway. :)

Hey everyone! I am so excited to see that I am not the only one in this age group trying to be a LFRV ! It can be difficult in this day and age especially with social gatherings, if you know what i mean ! In my case, there's not much fruit at the dining hall at my college. It stinks that I have to pay for all the other "junk" food when I don't eat it and they barely provide what I do eat. Anyways, it's so great that I finally found a community of like minded people ! I'm excited and this is very encouraging for me to keep up the lifestyle seeing that I'm not alone ! =)

Hey everyone, just wanted to introduce myself :) My name is Aly and I go to George Washington Univ. in Washington, DC. Nice to know there are other students living raw while going to school, definitely encouraging! :)

Yes, I bow down to buffet cafeterias... may as well put my chair next to the serving tables, lol!

gahhhh! im so excited i found this page. :)

marlene, i normally just bring food with me everywhere and much all the time whether it be 10 oranges or a stalk or celery. my friends think its funny and call me a rabbit, and its fun to joke and play, but as they notice my slim figure, and endless energy, they begin to make changes in their own lives.

Oh my cafeteria was a buffet.  I usually took a couple apples for a snack each time I went though. I had a meal plan so I was able to eat there whenever I wanted.

Also right now at my new school I do not have a locker, but if you are commuting you could always leave some food in your car and grab it for lunch.

hi hannah! thanks for your reply. a couple of apples is hardly enough, i mean 10-20 ripe bananas which i've never seen cheap at the cafeteria. how about the other folks? do you store bananas in your school locker? some other cool ideas maybe? xx

Hi Marlene! Hmm well if there is no 801010 then I'd definitely bring food. I am commuting for the first time this semester and I usually bring oranges or apples to class and sometimes bananas. I've never had anyone say I am rude for not eating their food before at a party. Most people my age are really curious when I tell them I am vegan. But if you don't want to be the only one not eating at a party and you are not sure if they'll have something you can eat I'd probably bring a couple pieces of fruit in a purse or something like that. Also, if your school has a cafeteria there will probably be a salad and fruit bar. I know my previous university always had a great amount of fresh fruits and veggies.
