Comment by HandymanBananas on July 24, 2012 at 2:57am I still go out to bars with friends and drink carbonated water with lime. It has the appearance of alcohol and it is a little bit different from just water.. Yeah, the whole social thing is definitely hard to deal with. Dating too..... How many times can you ask a girl to go on a walk with you rather than a drink, a coffee, a slice. I think the only way to deal with it is to join in (if you are confident you won't succumb to the SAD) and have a good time doing so. Make it worth YOUR while. Otherwise- why do it at all? If you are uncomfortable others around you will be too. I think it is also important to find a new group of people (or get your old friends to join you) that are into activities that focus on health- biking, climbing, hiking etc. Even if you yourself are not that into it (yet). I think living HCRV allows us to enjoy and respond to physical activity easily and we should take advantage of both the exercise and the positive social outlet.
On another note-
I am coming close to 3 months and only just yesterday when I went out to a restaurant with a few people I didn't really know, and had to explain the diet to them, did I realize I was sick and tired of talking about it! Hahaha! I thought it was funny because up until then I would talk about HCRV with zest and this time I found myself annoyed that this was, yet again, the focus of conversation.
But then, what do I expect? It is pretty far from "normal". Are you folks tired of explaining HCRV to people? What do you say? Almost everyone I talk to is extremely interested and responds well to my explanation but I am definitely getting a little tired of talking about it.
Comment by jimmy on July 22, 2012 at 10:17am Yeah, you'll get that(social issues),dont know what the answer is though
Comment by David Costa on July 22, 2012 at 9:05am I'm dealing with the social issue, using all the energy from this to go out while it's sunny for long bike rides, hoping I'll run into something like some cyclists or some vegans or something that gets my attention.
Comment by Loloford on July 22, 2012 at 8:53am Yes JAmie me too!
so i "cheat" on my diet just to be able to socialize :-(
Comment by Genevieve Berard on July 20, 2012 at 5:38pm So tomorrow marks day 1 of 80 10 10 for me...still waiting for the book to come from Amazon, but I'm READY FOR THIS!!! I definitely need this change in my life. Sick of struggling with my weight, my skin, addictions to food and depression. None of it's worth it. I just ate my last veggie burger, and guess what? It wasn't even that good. Wish me luck!!! I'M STOKED :)

Comment by Konstantia on July 20, 2012 at 5:01am Hi pals, new here. I am a vegan eating only organics for around 4 years - totally clean, never gone back again but still eat cooked food. I lost around 17 kilos in 6-7 months when I changed my diet that never got back without any effort, in fact my trousers and the other people saw it first and then I saw it myself. Although I see my cravings and body changing by themselves doing one step at a time, I still, as I said, eat cooked food. I feel that this is not good or not good enough any more and I try to watch what my body wants and act accordingly. During the last year I feel the need to eat less and more simple things and lately I am on to smoothies and a day food-free every week (except from water, of course!). I feel I am going well but some times I want to talk about it with others and see how it goes for other people and also to find new info and new stuff that my body would love. An other good effect from all these and the changes I made, mainly driven from my love for animals, is that I am 48 years young and most people say I look like 30-35 (my elder daughter makes fun assuming that I pay them all... :P), haha. Well, that's not that bad I suppose. I am not feeling well with supplements - although I get some B12 light supplement once in a while. I could easily say it's a mind and not body stuff if I didn't have some hair lose and some extra tiredness some periods, although this could have to do with my job. Lately, I found out that vitamin A has more to do with hair than B12 but that's life. :) - Well, if you had the patience and the courage to read all the above, congrats, it was an extended introduction of myself. I hope to get to know you, help and get helped. ~See you.
Comment by Casey on July 19, 2012 at 3:00am Yes having fruit on hand and RESOLVING TO EAT IT is key. When cravings arise if you just go fruit yourself you'll be thankful you didn't give in to silly mind craving. :)
Comment by David Costa on July 19, 2012 at 2:16am I was walking thru town last night and the smells of cooked foods didn't make me interested as much in eating that type of food, it seems to fall more inline with smells more like car exhaust or paint fumes now.
Hey Bethany-
I would tell them that you are going out to eat with some friends on certain nights ;) and then go to the grocery store and stock up fruit in your car- if you have one! A sly thing to do, but great for your health if you're feeling especially low. I have a family that doesn't cook much, so it's sometimes okay for me to get away and eat. Do you make raw dishes at all? Perhaps you can plan a raw dish that is especially good tasting and have them try it. How long have you been 811 or raw vegan?
