30BaD note: juicing (without the pulp) is not ideal for most people, it's far better to eat the whole fruit. why?

Comment by Itsy Sweeney on July 2, 2012 at 7:32pm Hi Artist81. Congrats on quitting smoking!! Be patient with yourself. Your lungs & body are healing as best they can...give it some time..you've probably smoked for many years. Know that healing is happening! Here's some good info;
When Smokers Quit
Just 20 minutes after you’ve smoked that last cigarette, your body begins an on-going series of beneficial changes.
20 minutes Blood pressure becomes normal
Pulse rate becomes normal
Temperature of hands and feet become normal
8 Hours Carbon-monoxide level in blood becomes normal
Oxygen level in blood increases to normal
24 Hours Chance of heart attack decreases
48 Hours Nerve endings start re-growing
Ability to smell and taste is enhanced
Walking becomes easier
2 Weeks to Circulation improves
3 Months Lung function increases up to 30 percent
1-9 Months Coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue, shortness of breath decrease
Cilia re-grow in lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus and clean
the lungs, thereby, reducing infection.
1 Year Risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker
This information is provided by The American Cancer Society,
And the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Keep up the good! Itsy
Comment by Artist81 on July 2, 2012 at 2:53pm Hi!
Newbie here!
I really need some advice on how to rehab my lungs and cardiovascular system now that I have quit smoking. My lungs are just not recovering like I thought they would... Maybe it is because I am older (early 30's)? I really want to start exercising again, but I get winded and my heart starts pounding after I go up like two flights of stairs and sometimes when I try to laugh I feel like I can't breath and start coughing... Not cool. LOL
Anyone else have experience with this that can offer some good tips?

Comment by T on June 25, 2012 at 8:28am Before I started eating this way I was grazing all the time, always preoccupied with food and never satisfied. This is the first time since I was a kid that I actually feel satisfied for a few hours after eating. I'm managing 2500 calories a day, but it's been spread over about 5 smaller meals. I think now that I'm getting more comfortable, I can make it 4 bigger meals as I get over my fear of eating tons of fruit at one sitting. Maybe someday I can move to 3 meals.
Dr Graham says ideally 3 meals a day,
AS cited in Hatfield (2000), eat five meals or more each day. "This controls blood sugar and insulin levels, which relates to a person’s energy level. A major concern for a person is their blood sugar level. After a meal, blood sugar elevates, which allows a person to function without loss of energy. Low blood sugar causes people to feel tired and weak. Providing the body with carbohydrates throughout the day helps to stabilize blood glucose. Small amounts of protein ingested throughout the day can help support growth and recovery instead of it being stored as fat. When put into a famine-state from infrequent eating, the endocrine system decides to store incoming food as fat in preparation for future lack of food" Tenison, para 6, 2010).

Comment by Bar B Sunshine on June 25, 2012 at 5:32am @Tracy: Dr Graham says ideally 3 meals a day, but is ok to eat 4 or 5 smaller meals if that's what your body needs until you stomach can stretch to its ideal size. I also know of some ppl who graze all day and do just fine on this lifestyle. A great way would be to blend your food, try smoothies, use fruit higher in calories, like bananas or mangoes, and add greens eventually, this will help you meet your quota and feel satiated. Ps don't forget to chew your smoothie to produce enough salivation, this will help digest your food! =)
