Comment by HandymanBananas on May 26, 2012 at 10:08pm second question: what does SAD stand for?
Comment by HandymanBananas on May 26, 2012 at 10:05pm hmm... thanks jimmy. i ended up eating about 4 last night blended over a salad BEFORE i got any responses (sorry i was hungry and couldn't wait!). the treatment of any of the products you mentioned isn't going to work for so yes, fresh is best. thanks all!
Comment by Stephanie McClennon on May 26, 2012 at 5:13pm good, jaiid! just keep playing around with your diet, like eating more for brekky or figuring out what your body really wants for lunch and then bringing that and maybe a few more options. that's what i've been doing :)
Comment by jimmy on May 26, 2012 at 4:16pm Seems they are all preserved in some way with salt, oil or sulphur, due to some semi dried tomatoes causing hepatitis.I've never seen any natural sun dried tomatoes in the best ethical bulk wholefood warehouse here, next time I'm there I'll ask about it.Maybe the best thing is to get a dehydrator, but if they are not fully dried(hard and crispy) you would still have to keep in the fridge and use within a few weeks.
Maybe fresh is best???
Comment by HandymanBananas on May 26, 2012 at 12:04pm Thanks Itsy! Yea I kind of sensed something not totally honest about "sun dried tomatoes". Obviously not sun dried but I'm thinking salt is added to most. Possibly preservatives? I will look for the video. Thanks again :)
Comment by Itsy Sweeney on May 26, 2012 at 11:47am Hi Conor, I just watched a video by Chris Kendall about sun-dried tomatoes that he used and had salt on them, despite not having salt listed. I didn't get to see the full video because my internet died.
It would be a good idea to soak and rinse them well before using them "just in case". As far as raw, I'm not sure, though I'd bet they aren't really "sun-dried"! I do love making a raw zucchini pasta with sun-dried tomato sauce!! :) Peace & Great Health to you, Itsy
Comment by HandymanBananas on May 26, 2012 at 10:44am SUN DRIED TOMATOES???? Anything I should know? Do you think any have preservatives? Are they salted? Are they raw? Housemate got a bag without info and I want some in my salad but...... need to know from you guys first if its all good. What's the word??
Comment by Jaiid the Singer on May 25, 2012 at 9:02pm Stephanie, Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions, I will definitely try harder. Here in Melb it was especially cold today! I did have vegetable soup... BUT I saved some of the salad before the oil went on! AND it did make a difference.. I did not feel AS heavy in the tummy afterwards.. :-)
Comment by jimmy on May 25, 2012 at 7:09pm Celery is often recommended for its higher sodium content.I just found out that commercial, chemically force fed(ever wonder why it is so big &lush looking)non organic supermarket celery is second only to strawberries in pesticide contamination.Maybe we should keep this in mind before buying conventional produce.
