Comment by Mara Cordova on May 2, 2012 at 7:29am Yael, you'll lose that water and fruit weight going to the bathroom. :D
Comment by Mara Cordova on May 2, 2012 at 7:28am Yael, no fear! You are working out every time you get up, and do what you gotta. Everything you do burns calories. Even SLEEPING burns calories. You need to drink more water, yes, and eat more fruit! I know it sounds counter to eat more to lose more- but think, the less fat you put in, the more of your fat you use. It just takes time. But every time you walk to the kitchen to get a banana, you're losing weight. :D
Comment by Yael Feit on May 2, 2012 at 7:24am Mara-- so what you are saying is that I won't loose it until I start working out a lot and burn off everything that I ate?? Oh no! Nothing will work unless I work out? I need to drink more, yah??
Thanks so much for answering...
Comment by Mara Cordova on May 2, 2012 at 7:17am Yael- how much did you gain? Are you accounting the physical weight of what you're eating when you weigh yourself? You're not doing anything wrong, you need patience. If you eat 2000 calories of bananas a day, you're going to weigh 7.5 pounds (6oz per banana, 20 bananas= 120oz) heavier on that day, if you drink 64 oz of water a day (as is recommended) you're going to weigh 4 pounds heavier on that day. 11.5 pounds that is not YOU, every day.
That 11.5 pounds will give you the energy you need to work away your fat, the weight that IS you, without adding more fat to the weight that is you. 3oz of ground beef is 250 calories, with 150 calories of fat. If you had your 2000 calories in beef, that's 24oz (1.5 pounds of beef- which is LIGHTER than 11.5 pounds of fruit.) with 1200 calories of FAT, that will be you.
You are not doing anything wrong. You are doing something right!

Comment by Stephanie McClennon on May 2, 2012 at 4:54am j. lyn, a lot of people are going to tell you exactly how many calories they think you need, but really your body is the only thing that can tell you how many calories you need. do you find yourself looking for more sweet (or non-sweet, like starchy) foods after a meal? eat until you're full and not craving any other foods.
Comment by sally on May 1, 2012 at 1:54pm Martin, I just read your post where you said you read that it was advised to take salt pills on long runs...Maybe you should read Dr. Bragg's book, he did an experiment with young college students and he himself participated. They did a long run across some desert and all those who took salt pills were dropping by the way side, (he was elderly when he did this) and he was the only one not taking them and he made it to the finish line. The point is, make sure of your source and that you do your homework before making a suggestion for people doing long runs to take salt pills. I haven't done much research on it myself, but would use caution in suggesting them.
Hello everyone! I am pretty new to 80-10-10 (three months now) and am eating roughly 2400 cals a day. I am very heavy (4 f 10, about 235 pounds) and obviously I want health first. Weight loss is a bonus. :P
Am I eating enough for now? I do 30 minutes of cardio/strength training 6 days a week. My heart rate monitor says I burn between 500 to 650 cals for each session. Thanks so much for any input!

Comment by Scotty on April 28, 2012 at 10:12pm I have been following 80/10/10 for 6 weeks now and find that when ever i get up to 15+ bananas in a day i develop really dry gooky mouth and pimples on the end and sides of my tongue and a really sore tummy (acidic feeling). I am careful only to eat ripe spotty bananas and am drinking 3 litres+ water a day. watery fruits done seems to be a problem but its hard to get the calories in with them like bananas and dates. Do you have any idea on what is causing this reaction?
