Can someone please explain why grains are so bad??
I have read the book, but I still don´t get it...

Grains cause me to have more cravings than just fruit and veggies. They also take me into bakeries and other dangerous places...and they get me started reading labels and worrying about what is processed and what is sprouted and what may contain hydrogenated fats and oils--that may be mis-labelled on purpose by the food industry. I do better when I keep it simple. However, I'm not doing all that great, frankly. You are probably doing better than I. Everybody has to learn and decide for themselves.
Permalink Reply by John on April 28, 2012 at 6:38am I found a great explanation: http://wellnessmama.com/575/how-grains-are-killing-you-slowly/ I didn't know this before, myself. Joining this site has made me think a lot more and research a lot more. Thanks for your question, Jeane!

Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on April 29, 2012 at 5:01am Well, fortunately, the anti-grains stance is the only thing that Paleo and 30BAD have in common XD
for starters the fiber in grain is a little to harsh to be optimal for the human digestive system. certain grains have addictive qualities and some halucinigetic properties. grains also dont give you the return for energy expended to digest them versus the nutritional benift recieved. grains also are boring and some bland themselves which usually require seasonings which distort taste buds and have poisonous alkaloids that are harmful. environmentally grains deplete the ever disappearing topsoil and lessen the usable space for other species as very few can share a field with lets say a wheat field as where an orchard can sustain alot of diverse species. they are just a few of the reasons. hope i was helpful.

Permalink Reply by Charmaine Diallo on April 28, 2012 at 8:51am Good question. What I try to think is "will this taste good without seasoning, salt or cooking? For instance, rice may taste good with side dishes and seasoning, but it would taste horrible uncooked and without salt. I stopped eating rice late last year and ate it again for the first time about a month ago. It didn't taste very good and I looked like I had the flu the next day! I haven't had mangos since last spring and they taste great and better than ever! If you can't take it from where it's growing and eat it without a lot of trouble or equipment, it probably isn't food for us.
Also, I don't have the technical terms, but birds are the only "grain-eaters." They can eat grains without cooking them. We are frugivores (made to eat fruit). Check it out! It's very interesting.

Permalink Reply by Vroni on April 28, 2012 at 12:39pm Very simply, they're acid-forming = bad for your body = leaches vital nutrients from your bones and muscles = creates perfect environment for cancers amongst other problems. You want your body to be alkaline. Hope that helps :)
