30 Bananas a Day!

Hey everyone! I'm new here... Just getting back into the swing of things after getting a bit lost from the raw world. I've been mostly raw for about 2 months now and feeling like I could use some support. I would love to meet others who are in transition as well as chat it up with some more "seasoned" raw foodists. To start... I'd love to get a feel for what a typical day of meals/ eating is like for everyone and what would be recommended for someone who is tying to transition into raw. Currently I am relying mainly on fruit smoothies, a big mid day salad, and as much whole fruit snacking as possible (mostly apples and bananas). I'm having a tough time kicking the salad dressing out of the equation :( any suggestions? I wish I liked it just plain but it's just not doin it for me yet haha.... Raw drawing recipes would be appreciated! Thanks!

My two fave dressings.....

For a non fat dressing I use salsa on my salads. Tomatoes, cilantro, green onions, lemon juice. Process so its a chunky consistency.Sometimes I add mango or avocado pieces in the dressing.

For a fattier version...Tahini, garlic (thats up to you, i use it occasionally), dates, lemon (or orange if you want a sweeter version, very yummy) and cilantro. Blend. Add water if you want less thickness.

yum.

Hi Michelle.  Welcome back.  I'm really enjoying just plain old lime juice on my salads at the moment.  I was finding the no fat dressings a bit too much flavour, so decided to keep it really simple.  Lime juice is sublime...

I'm transitioning too.  Today I had 2 green smoothies, an orange, a papaya smoothie, a lot of bananas, a couple of apples, a couple of small rice crackers at work, big salad at night with raw corn, tomato, cos lettuce and lime juice and a tiny bit of pasta sauce I made for my family.  Had about 2500 cals all up.

2 quarts of fruit smoothies in the morning

Followed by 1 quart of green smoothies with rotation of the greens during the week a must!

Followed by a vegie snack or fruit snack or both

Ending the day with a humongous salad most of the days.

Lots of water.  8 hours of sleep.  Outdoors in the sunshine.  Vitamin B-12 (Methylcobalamin only!) patch twice a week.

Salad dressings are a cinch.  Make a salad.  Ask yourself what fruit or vegie or fruit/vegie dressing would be great on this.  Blend those up and pour it on.

Get off the overt fats!  No salt!!!!  No phakephood (bottled dressings)  Everything organic.

Thank you all for the helpful replies! I have tried lemon juice but not crazy about it... I make it half way through my salad and just don't want to keep eating :( I think maybe I don't enjoy veggies as much as I thought since feel the need to douse them in dressing and mask their true flavor. Haunt read 801010 yet but do I need all those veggies? Or should I just switch to fruit in my salads? And thank you organic811lfvw, seems so simple like "duh why didn't I think of that" to just say "hey what tastes good to me?" and then throw it in a blender and call it a dressing! Need to get back in touch with my creative side. Last time I was raw I remember inventing things like honeydew lettuce wraps drizzled with pineapple bell pepper sauce and loving it! Thank you for sparking my inspiration everyone ;) just what I needed

Michele, load up on the fruit hon.  Vegies are 2ndry to this program and you'll develop an afinity to them soon enough.  No worries.  Give it time.

Michelle, I can't think of a salad that I make that *doesn't* contain at least one sweet fruit! Usually it's tangelos these days, and in the winter it was oranges. When they're around (summer, yay!) I LOVE mangoes in my salads.

So try a salad like this: ripe juicy tomatoes, mangoes/tangelos/oranges (whichever one you have), cucumbers or zuchinis (cut up small), red peppers cut very thinly, and some sort of sweet greens (baby spinach, romaine, etc). Then once you have everything in there, mix it with your hands really well, kinda squeezing it, so that all the juices of the tomatoes and fruit flow together...mmm! You could even add some extra juice from a tangelo/orange to the salad.

That's is how I like my salads when I make them :). You could also add some cut up dill/mint/basil if you have any around. I *love* dill in my salads.

You could also make some very delish dressings with: tomatoes, tangelos or mangoes, dill or basil, red peppers (this adds thickness, so I usually add quite a bit).

Hope this helped!

Great tip... Toss the salad with your hands and gently squeeze to release the juices... Love it! That combined with using sweet fruits instead of just veggies will probably make my salads pretty awesome ;) funny u mentioned herbs I was thinking about testing out a raw dressing recipe using strawberries, orange juice, and possibly a little mint! Can't wait to go stock up at the market this weekend!
