Hey there Everyone!!! Hope all of you are having a Fabulous Day! I have been doing lots of reading lately on 811, I have not purchased the book yet, I will when funds are a bit better. Today is my Day 1 of this lifestyle and I am excited. I have been feeling horrible, my muscles ache, my joints ache and just my overall health does not feel good. Last night I had this overwhelming feeling, I could literally feel all the puffiness in my body, was a weird feeling. I didn't even want my honey to look at me because I felt he could see what I was feeling. I came from the Paleo lifestyle and it very much worked for me. The past few months I have not followed any program just been eating whatever and not exercising. I did do a couple of juicing until dinner detoxes but then completely blew it come dinner time. I know these components have a lot to do with the way that I am feeling. I am very excited to see the results of this way of living but also a bit nervous and scared I can't afford to gain more weight, I am at my heaviest and unhealthiest ever! My one question so far is what does 10% Fat look like, can someone tell me what that consists of ??? Thanks So Much for all you help and Thanks for listening!!!!!

The fat is extremely low. I have a few raw almonds and a few raw sunflower seeds plus my daily 1 glass of almond milk and I am done with fat and oils for the day. I have found many ways to not use oils or eat fat. No fat dressing can be made with mustard and honey (not raw or vegan but it is no fat and vegetarian at least.) You can stir-fry veggies with just a little water if you choose to eat some cooked food.
Overall my advice is to just start out eating bananas, and get used to eating raw whole foods with fruits that way. You can then incorporate other foods as you learn what you like to eat on this diet.
I started out with just bananas for 3 days to "detox" and learn how to use cronometer.com then I incorporated some dates, and oranges. I found that I needed some other vitamins (and as a personal choice) started having 1 glass per day of fortified almond milk. (vegan but not raw).
I stay completely away from high fat veggies like avocados unless it is some special occasion.
here is what my day looks like (personal choices are in here that are not raw, but this is only what I choose to do. This site is about being 100% raw and vegan.)
-wake up and eat 4-5 oranges with a tall glass of water. (this beats coffee for waking up any day!)
-have a snack such as dates or (air popped = no fat) popcorn, or 3-4 bananas a few hours later with a tall glass of water.
-have one (large) cooked meal. Either carrots, onions and thai rice noodle veggie soup, or carrots, zucchini, onions thai rice noodles curry (with light coconut milk or almond milk). This is a meal you could serve a family but I eat it all myself. No oils, no fat to cook in. to stir-fry the veggies for the curry I use water or a little veggie stock. I consider this lunch #1) with a tall glass of water.
-have another snack like dates or (air popped = no fat) popcorn or 3-4 bananas. with a tall glass of water.
-eat a salad - this is a HUGE salad. I use my home made dressing with no fat, and sprinkle with raw corn or tomatoes and sunflower seeds (a very small sprinkle).
-eat another huge salad for dinner with the family. with a glass of almond milk.
the rest of the times during the day if I even feel a slight pang of hunger or start even thinking about food I eat 3-4 bananas. If I get hungry at night I eat bananas or popcorn.
This diet has worked tremendously for me. My skin has cleared up, I have lost weight without even thinking about it.
Just start out with the bananas and water. Treat it as a cleans and slowly work in other food consciously. Be very careful with seeds, nuts avocados etc...
Good luck!!
Permalink Reply by sannabanna on April 4, 2012 at 1:17am im curious as to know why you choose to keep cooked food in your diet? have you tried 100% raw before, but found that 66% is more benificial for you?
Permalink Reply by Sara Murray on April 4, 2012 at 1:52am When I started this sort of thing it was very cold here and I just could not take it so I added in the cooked food. I have not tried 100% raw other than that first week, but I intend to try again over the summer when more ripe fruits will be available here and it will be warm. :) (I am in Minnesota.)
Also, I think if I could make smoothies that would allow me to go 100% raw. I have a normal blender and it just does not blend well enough for me to make good smoothies. If I ever get a vitamix I will see if that is what I need to get those extra calories in.
I would like to get rid of the rice if I can as well. (Rice noodles) Right now that is not working though. If I take out the rice I am starving and losing too much weight. (I got down to 118 pounds within a month of this new lifestyle and my body type really shouldn't be less than that so I started adding things back in until my weight stabilized more. The rice and popcorn really stabilize it well.) I once ate everything you see above without the rice and popcorn and instead at a TON of bananas all day long and I lost weight, but if I ate just a bit of noodles or popcorn I didn't drop as sharply. I think my calorie count that day was close to 4000!
So I am still experimenting and learning about my own body. One really great thing is that I no longer have migraine headaches! That has been truly amazing for me. Anyway...! I wrote another small novel for you. :) - Sara
Permalink Reply by sannabanna on April 6, 2012 at 6:40pm i've felt the same way! when i started back in january i had a hard time in the beginning and i would 'fail' every third day or so, so i just accepted that my new lifestyle wasnt gonna be a 100 percent incorporated right away. but now i really try not to deviate since its already getting warmer (and fruits are getting cheaper)
i have a question kinda out of subject, did you gain weight in the beginning? cause i've gained 2kgs (4,5pounds) and it's really bothering me, since it do not feel like its muscle (i feel softer) so i wanted to know if that's something someelse has experienced? ...my fingers are crossed that its temporary water weight
Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on April 4, 2012 at 1:54am Yes if you are craving ANYTHING at the end of the day you did not eat enough carbs. You should start out at 2500 minimum, and definitely use cronometer or equivalent.
If you want to lose weight quicker, go below 10% fat. Many 811'ers regularly eat about 3-5% fat, this is perfectly healthy. If you must eat ANY overt fats, eat half an avocado or a small bit of nuts and that's it for the day.
Some people bloat a little at the beginning. This is temporary, your body is detoxing and getting used to this new thang. This is not a fad diet so do not expect to see results in one night, instead do it consistently for a month and then you won't even be worried because you will see the results by then.
