Found some organic medjool dates

I just had a craving for some dates yesterday, and I found some nice organic medjools at Whole Foods on Ponce DeLeon in Downtown Atlanta. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Sandy Springs Whole Foods also have organic dates, they sell by lb. I bought a case from them, 15lbs. They will give you a discount for wholesale. I think it is 10%, but don't remember it clearly. The girl works there told me that if I need more in the future, I can give the store a call before heading over, they will hold a case for me. I am not sure if they do the same with fresh fruit. I certainly can use some discount with organic bananas. :)

Hi Ben. Organic cases of bananas from Delakb Farmer's Market are $19 from Mexico! I think they are also higher quality then the Central American imports. If you need a closer source to the south side Destiny Organics sells cases of bananas for about $27. You can get a conventional case of bananas from the State Farmer's Market for $12-$18. If you don't want an entire case Trader Joe's most likely has the cheapest organic bananas sold by .29 each last time I checked. It comes out to about 69 cents per lb.

Thanks for the referrals. I could probably hit the Dekalb Farmer's Market during lunch sometime, as I work off of Clairmont, but it would probably end up being a longer lunch.

Believe it or not, Kroger has some really nice looking organic bananas for $0.69 a lb., which matches Destiny Organics. I'm probably going to hit the Dekalb Farmers Market this weekend for a case of bananas as that price is pretty good. Even worth fighting that crowd! I have totally become a nanner-holic on this diet. I love to freeze them and make ice cream smoothies out of them with a blender.

Thanks for the info Ben. 69 cents is a great price! In California organic bananas cost $0.99 - $1.29 per lb. retail.

I know what you mean about the crowds at Dekalb. I try to get there just after 9 am when they open and it's still busy. I don't know if you like mamey sapote but Dekalb has been selling it for pretty cheap during the last few weeks. It's definitely a treat! It's in the center area near the avocados.

Just picked up a case of organic bananas at Dekalb Farmers Market today for 40 lbs at $19. I think that's about 47.5 cents per pound. Not too shabby. Nate, you were right, they were very good looking bananas. After a second look at the Kroger bananas last night, I didn't think they looked so good, especially compared to the ones at Dekalb.

I was just at the Dekalb Farmer's Market today and found some pretty fresh organic dates from Isreal. The Deglet Noors are $5 per lb. and Medjool is $8 per lb. Not the best prices but they are pretty good quality. They sell them in the dried fruit section. They just got the shipment in a few weeks ago.

Destiny Organics has cases of organic Medjools from California. 11 lbs. for $57. I've not tried them so I don't know how fresh they are. They are probably similar quality to Whole Foods.

I would like to organize a bulk purchase from California sometime in a month or so. I'm thinking if we get 100+ lbs. we could likely get about $3 per lb. What do you guys think? Dates can store in the freezer for at least a year.

I love dates, but they definitely are not a cheap fruit. Glad they're in season now.
