wow. lots of disgruntled parents i see. i am 20, moving in 2 wks. yay! i can't bleive that i've lived with my parents for this long. but i was in communiy college for and finally i'm going to a university. a lot of memories of fights and criticism way back in high school when i first went veg/vegan. i feel your pain. my parents stopped criticising most of the time b/c they knew that it didn't phase me anymore. i always expected it and now i just get some curious looks and sincere, "oooh, what's that?" i think once that they know that you're serious and that they can take you or leave you the way that you are, they see that it is SO NOT THE BIG DEAL that they make of it. Also, i know a lot of people with very over-bearing parents (mine aren't too bad) and i can see how sometimes the ridicule and nagging never stops, but they THINK they know best and want the best for you. you just have to remember that you know more about it than them (you SHOULD know more about your diet than them) and that they're just scared for your health. Also, i suggest reading some books on vegan/veg/raw foodist edicate. I read "
"vegan freak" which takes a very funny and real stance on veganism and dealing with people in your life that aren't. it really helps to avoid fights on x-mas when you know the best way to answer "So WHY did you turn vegan????!" lol :) good luck peeps!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and am going through a transition from vegetarianism to high raw veganism. I'm 19 and it is really hard to find people my age that eat similarly to me. My parents don't really understand, my mom growing up on a Dominican diet and my dad a Greek one, and my sister teases me sometimes. I need support because it is hard for me when I have most people around me saying that I'm weird or crazy.

17. currently not 811, or even vegan. Semi-vegetarian on most days. I avoid meat where I can. Vegetables and fruit are almost non-existent in my house. We buy Iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and salad dressing- that's pretty much the extent of our food. Well, we have oranges and apples, and at this moment some mango that I begged my Dad to buy.
I'm still in high school, but in about a year I'll be in college and finally free to go all out on 811. My family says I can't be crazy until I leave, and they'll probably disown me for what I know I am going to do, because of what I am slowly becoming. I'm scared, but I know I have to do this. I feel that God has led me to this for a reason, and I won't ignore His voice. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were 811. In fact, mankind was wholly 811 until after the flood. Somehow I don't feel like I am becoming someone new, but going back to what I once was.
