Does anyone in the group work nights? If so how do you plan what you eat?

I do work part of the night, but from home. Otherwise, I can't see how it's any different re planning and taking raw food. I suggest fruit that is quick to consume, ie quite high-calorie: bananas, mangos (pricey in uk I know, but coming in to season), grapes, pears maybe. In uk we are really limited as to whole fruits that are not only affordable, but soft enough to eat fast enough on a break, and be satiating. Dates maybe...many sites selling fresh dates do not officially ship to uk, but will if you offer cash (just try not to sound like the taxman checking!) ;-)
There's dried fruit of course; nice with banana. Major supermarkets may offer "wet" versions of dried fruit, I've had them from Sainsbury, but Tesco seem to have deleted them now. I don't think they are really raw though - fresh dried fruit requires freezing.

yes still here lol. Working nights Is only different in that I don't get the sit down time to consume a "meal" as such. Banana's I have managed to get a great deal on at my local wholesaler. £3 for an 18kg box of fairtrade. Mango's I love but yes they are expensive. I don't want to eat too much citrus fruit. I have kiwi but they are more of a snack. Dates I love but am also trying to limit those to just a few a day. I don't like datorade, but love banana smoothies. I just buy the Tesco Organic dates. I can get the fruit in I guess in the way of banana's but don't want to go over the top on calories munching those, and what I find I don't have too much time to sit and eat is my large salad at the end of the day, because my last 3-4 hours at work is busy. I'm just trying to find a balance really. As yet I don't sleep well in the day (I never have) so just want a happy medium. It is hard working nights, and I don't find it just a flip of the day time. I am trying to eat seasonal and am really glad I found a wholesaler.
Tell me, how important is it to eat these greens (salad)? Can I substitute it?, I see some people are on like 90/5/5 and I have seen some people on youtube that are 100% fruit!! Any suggestions? I just don't enjoy a salad every day.
Permalink Reply by Jamie T on March 20, 2012 at 9:24am I work nights quite a lot, usually at least 2-3 weeks out of every 8. I'm pretty lucky to have a job where if it's quite(and it always is) that I can get some sleep so I tend to eat normally like I do most days only I sleep in a little later & start/finish eating a few hours later. So my last meal or snack when I'm on nights will be about 22:20-23:30 when it would normally be no later than about 20:00 on my days off or 18:30 on days I work day shift.

Permalink Reply by Jamie T on March 24, 2012 at 5:14am I work in a helpdesk(glorified way of saying call centre) for a government contract, we're basically the middle man between the contractors & the customers. So if anything goes wrong in the buildings they phone us, we log the problem & send the contractors out to fix it.
It's not the most glamorous of jobs but it's 5 minutes from my house, it's stress free for the most part & the shifts are great. We do 3 12 hour shifts a week for the most part, with the odd Mon-Fri every 8 weeks or so.
