Comment by Sigrid Holth on March 13, 2012 at 4:42am *Lykkeliette: I recommend buying dates at international markets (innvandrerbutikker). They often have fresh dates without anything nasty in them and they're often cheaper too! When I buy my dates there (rarely, as I can get them even cheaper at my Coop) I get a 700gr box for 35 kr. I think the Iranian dates are the best!
Comment by Henriette Frugivore on March 13, 2012 at 3:59am I`ve been checking out dates, but a lot of them seem to contain additives/conservatives...?
Comment by Sigrid Holth on March 12, 2012 at 5:40am The dates I buy aren't medjools, they are Iranian ones called Mazafati! I like them much better than the medjools!

Though, Coop has begun with having the same price for organic fruit as regular fruit. So if you buy the ones without plastic bags sometimes, then buy the organic ones in plastic bag instead ;-)
BTW. I have a overview of what price each fruit need to have, in order for keeping the monthly costs down to below 3000Kr, if eating 3000kcal a day. Bananas and dates are easy. But some is WAY too expensive. A meal is 1000 kcal. Heres the list:
Banana: 12 kr/kg = 22kr pr meal = 1972 kr/mnd
Date: 90 kr/kg = 36kr pr meal = 3200 kr/mnd
Pear: 15 kr/kg = 37kr pr meal = 3200 kr/mnd
Orange: 9 kr/kg = 31kr pr meal = 2800 kr/mnd
Kiwi: 18 kr/kg = 37kr pr meal = 3300 kr/mnd
Apple: 15 kr/kg = 33kr pr meal = 3000 kr/mnd
Grape: 22 kr/kg = 33kr pr meal = 2900 kr/mnd
Mango: 15 kr/kg = 34kr pr meal = 3100kr/mnd
Pineapple: 8 kr/kg = 32kr pr meal = 2900 kr/mnd
Honey Dew: 8 kr/kg = 35kr meal = 3200 kr/mnd
So keep in mind that the values are based on a 3000kcal/day diet and 1000kcal pr meal.
This list should make it easier to see when something is cheap enough, at least for beginners.
@Natalia: Hei :-)
Yes, that is the price I've encountered also. But there are other dates than Medjools, which are the ones with that high price, and I don't think Sigrid is buying Medjools at Coop Obs! for 25 kr/kg.
If she is, then I am going to buy a 100kg from them :-)
Finn en innvandrerbutikk, så finner du billige dadler også =)
Comment by Sigrid Holth on March 12, 2012 at 3:34am Yeah, I've been buying 'first price' bananas often because of their price, but really wish I'd been able to buy the organic ones! Sometimes I just buy the ones without plastic because they are often larger than the 'first price' ones :P
I can get fresh dates really really cheap at my Coop Obs! I get them for 25 a kg! I buy several boxes everytime, just to have enough! ...which reminds me that I need some more... Started on the last box today!
Comment by Svein Daniel Solvenus on March 12, 2012 at 3:22am Hi. I have Coop Prix nearby, they sell two kinds of bananas.
The cheapest in plastic bags, they are 12 kr /kg. I think thats cheap.
Then oranges is down to 8 kr /kg this week, but I guess the price reduction is over the next week.
For now I eat mostly bananas, dates, oranges and strawberries (frozen).
I think smartclub has medjool dates for 90 kr /kg, which is pretty cheap Norway wise, since most stores with medjool sell them for twice that price.
But in "innvandrerbutikker" you can buy other kinds of sweet dates cheaply.
