Comment by Silex on November 27, 2012 at 6:41pm I agree with Oda, a good relation to a store is a good way to get discounts. And the best stores for that are the immigrant stores. Unfortunately they usually do not provide organic food in their normal assortment. For other chain stores, they have rules to throw away a lot of food. Babanas e.g. are taken off the counter as soon as they show some signs of getting ripe (dark stains)!! So there is an opportunity to get discounts provided you know some one in the shop.
Comment by Oda on November 27, 2012 at 8:48am Hi, Marie!
I live in Oslo, and I find that the immigrant shops have very good quality fruit and vegetables to a reasonable price. I'm not fully raw, I still eat organic rice cakes, pasta and stuff, but mostly during the day I consume a LOT of bananas, oranges, berries, spinach, apples, sellery and carrots. I've gotten to know the people where I buy my fruits, and they often give me discounts and specials because I'm a regular customer. I get bananas for 10kr a kilo, which is very cheap considering the supermarkets sell them at 20kr a kilo. The other day I got an entire bag of peppers for free (I put most of them in the freezer, but that's alright). I'm lucky, I live at Tøyen and there are three different immigrant shops nearby which are all very good and have nice variety. Good luck!
Comment by Silex on November 26, 2012 at 6:57pm As far as I know there is no way to get cheap food in Norway.
Access to organic food is extremely limited. As far as organic fruits and vegetables are concerned in supermarkets only oranges bananas, cucumber, lettuce, carrots, tomatoes are widely distributed.
The only place with a fair choice of organic vegan food I have found is RØTTER Sankt Hans Haugen in Oslo. Prices are crazy yes (bananas twice the price from ordinary store), and i used to buy only products not accessible in ordinary stores. If not organic, go for the so called Turkish or Pakistan shops, buy boxes and ask for discount, third solution, have a personal company and buy from the whole sales dealers at Økern, and a long term solution to mitigate costs: plant a large orchard like this one:
Comment by Marie Abrahamsen on November 26, 2012 at 5:49pm Where do you norwegians buy your fruit and veggies? ... It's so expencive shopping in the regular stores...
CHEAP organic fruits in Stockholm: there is an organic store that sells great fruits for half price (because they are "old") actually they usually taste even better. sure you don't always get the fruits you want, but some times you can get happy surprises, check it out> the store's name is "Eat!". (T-bana: Radmansgatan) or bus 2
