Comment by Casey on June 20, 2012 at 1:10pm I lived in Berkeley for a couple years - pretty great place! A lot of raw food options (though mostly high-fat gourmet stuff) in the area, and in general health-conscious/vegan people are MUCH easier to find than anywhere else I've lived. Living in Berkeley is what first got me to be vegan at all, and is also how I was first introduced to raw foods. And oh my, how ridiculously much awesome organic stuff you can dumpster dive at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc. I spent some time living at Hilarity House in Emeryville and we'd routinely dive too much food for ~30 people to keep up with. Then you have places like Ashby Gardens where you can grow your own, bicycling is a very popular mode of getting around, etc...a lot of good points to Berkeley and the bay in general. Only bummer, from my perspective, is living inside of that high of a population density. I would be lying though if I said I didn't miss it.
