After 3 years away, I've decided to go back to Hawaii. I'm going to buy some land and start a Permaculture food forest. I have some raw friends who are excited to join me and now I'm searching for a lovely raw vegan fruit/nature loving woman who is interested in living off the land and growing food. Most likely this will take place on the Big Island, since land is still affordable there.
My passion is growing plants. To take a seed, watch it sprout and grow into a tree and produce delicious fruit is an amazing experience. To help create a biodiverse ecosystem with rich soil and an abundance of food is truly a divine gift.
I'm looking for someone who wants to work together to bring the planet back to the garden of eden. Someone who's full of joy and vibrant energy and is excited about the possibility of being part of a loving raw vegan community.
Much love,
Jaden

I want to do the same thing in South Florida soon.. browsing for land right now.. any advice on how to choose land? Size, soil, near water, etc?
Good luck, and keep us posted!!!

Very cool that you want to start a food forest in South Florida! I would first look for the water source. Ideally a natural spring or stream. However many parts of Hawaii (and FL) get enough rain to rely completely on rainwater. Good to have healthy mineral rich soil, but if you just have sand you can build it through composting and nitrogen fixing (and buying organic compost to get started). There are so many factors, including neighbors, proximity to military or industrial installations, which states are freest, etc. Your question opens up an entire subject. :)
Keep me posted to your plans in Florida, and good luck!

I'm happy to hear there are so many like minded folks on this site. I'd love to explore Kauai. I agree, if you want to be self-sustainable, Hawaii offers a great opportunity. :)

I had to reply to your post! While reading I kept thinking that I was reading my very own thoughts/plans. I plan on going to SE Asia hopefully in the New Year and work in various Eco Villages learning about permaculture and hopefully find a place to stay long term. Would be cool to chat more with like minded individuals on a similar path...
namaste :) xx

Your idea of bringing back the planet to garden of eden is perfect :) I daydream about that everyday... my dream is to start my own community too eventually. Im looking for an already established place along the same idea of sustainable living etc... where I can temporarily work or volunteer to help. I was wondering if you knew of anywhere in Hawaii where help would be needed.
I wish you all the luck!

That's great we have the same dream of sustainable living in the tropics. There are many places in Hawaii you can volunteer, especially in the Puna region on the Big Island. A quick search found this:

When do you plan on going to Hawaii?
Permalink Reply by Pipa Eve on May 18, 2011 at 5:16am thank you very much, ill look into that region then.
i dont really know when i plan going, or if i plan going to hawaii. It is one of the places i am thinking of going. Unfortunately i need to complete my university degree, and for such i am required to do an internship in somesort of guest-service scenario as i studied hotel management, im trying to find a way for this to somehow fit in with some sustainable retreat, as all i want is shelter and fruit!!... this is why i am not immediately volunteering for your pre-maculture food forest.
Reading your post however has been a true inspiration. Ever since a little girl ive had this dream, wondering how the whole world is asleep and just not seeing the beauty and magic of living in nature eating fruit :)

Permalink Reply by Jaden Oasis on May 18, 2011 at 4:58am Hi Lucky Lager,
Is your job more important than living your dream? Many people will be giving up their homes and jobs and going to Hawaii to start something new and fulfilling. Wouldn't growing food around like minded, loving people be more rewarding than what you're doing now? Wouldn't swimming in warm water with tropical fish be better than freezing winters on the mainland? When the economic collapse happens, we with either already be prepared for it because we'll have plenty of our own food to eat, or we'll be in for some tough times...
