we get this kind of thread once in a while and generally it gets dealt with, but here is a chance to work a few things out. i've made a few posts, let's see how others comment.
I found this great website promoting awareness of puppy mills but was a little disturbed that one of their ways of fund raising contributes to the cruelty of another species.
"Turkey Hill MOO Money (ongoing)
A refreshingly easy fundraiser that can raise tons of funds for us. It's easy: Just drink milk, collect the lids, and get Moo Money! Collect your lids and email us for drop-off information."
They seem like a great organization that are trying to stop the abuse and misuse of puppy mill dogs but it really doesn't make sense to me that they promote the cruelty of another species to raise money for the organization. Does anyone find this odd?
I feel this is a little counter productive because they seem to be a good organization but I felt compelled to write an e-mail to point out to them that this form of fund raising is really unaligned with their mission to help animals and that there are other ways of fund raising that don't promote cruelty at all.
My email:
Hi,
I found the united against puppy mills site very informative and it inspired me to take action against such cruelty, but I really found this form of fund raising (moo money) to be very unaligned with your mission to help animals. If you haven't already seen, the milk industry is anything but humane. Mother cows are abused and used and then slaughtered when they can no longer produce milk and the calves which actually need the milk from their mothers are taken away, confined and eventually are slaughtered for the veal industry. Please for a minute think about bringing a precious baby into the world only to have it immediately taken away and placed in confinement until it is slaughtered, meanwhile being tortured and forced to give milk until you are run dry, then the farmers would no longer have use for you so you would be slaughtered for food. Please take a few minutes of your time to watch this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kM387cI4rk&feature=player_embedded
Surely there is a way that you can raise money without promoting the cruelty, abuse, and misuse of another species of animal.
it is odd, but fairly typical.
the spca's have raised funds for years through barbeques and hotdog sales - last year, after considerable protest and letter-writing, did the finally see the folly of their ways (at least around here) and do something about it.
speciesism is not an easy attitude to get people to see and act upon.
I'm kinda leaning towards something else than Costa Rica too. I read about malaria, and alot of sites reccomend taking antimalarial drugs if you go to CR, and.. Nooo. I aint taking no drugs. All sites reccomend covering up and get mosquito nets etc.…
The shelf life for dates is so long because of the low water content. Some companies do shady techniques like drying in hot rooms or spraying with water or steaming. The only way to know is to look up the company and ask them
WHAHAHAH! Well said.
I actually recommend you keep it happening again, for it is rare, and needs to be common; that way, I'll be sane, from all the embellishment of disharmony. ;D
I just started eating dates and I am wondering if the dates I ate are truly raw ? I got them in the produce department of a local supermarket store from a bulk food box that said they are "fresh" Medjool Dates. From another thread ( http://www.30ban…

Hey Kylie,
No worries. I think variety and taste is important, but I would focus on the majority of your food intake over the course of a week coming from dates and bananas if possible. Simply because these are lower in water and higher in calories…
i recovered from anorexia many years ago. i do sometimes wonder if i transfer my tendancy for food obsessions onto raw food, i dont think i do but i can not be certain. i have been able to develop non-obsessive eating habits on raw but then again i…

...To me it seems, that I am evolving (still) in gravitating naturally and instinctivelly from the earlier more exercising of the "body" to the presently more "exercising" of the mind...
That is, instances now spent on "exercising"…
I do only the kind of exercise which is fun or useful for me. Like carrying 20kg of fruit in my backpack a few kilometres. Something like that. I love running and biking, but only as long as it is FUN. When I think about my childhood... I LOVED to p…
