i know this topic has been completely juiced to a pulp by now.
apologies for the redundancy. i watched the "response" video by the blonde girl on 30BADS and i feel compelled to write this.
freelee and durianrider, etc. : if you don't like the contents of this post, please don't ban me from the forum. i will edit the post or i'll remove it. i have only good intentions.
here is my humble opinion with regards to weight gain as a female, because, well, i am a female and that's the only experience as a human that i have. the girl on 30BAS was saying that she, and others, started the 30BAD diet and gained 10, 20, 30, and 40+ pounds.
obligatory OH MY GOODNESS>>
here are my tips to women gaining weight when starting this diet.
# first and foremost, disclaimer and disclosure; it is entirely allowed, OK, permitted, healthy and accepted to care about your weight if you want to care about your weight. most people who don't say they care about their weight are lying. people who don't say anything abut their weight probably do care about their weight. only a tiny percentage of the population (of first world countries) utterly do not care about their weight. weight is indicative of health and beauty. you can go on for hours (paragraphs) re: fat, muscle and body mass compositions and ratios. very few women concerned with weight gain are gaining too much "muscle." so let's just admit, if we're reading this thread, we care about our weight and everything is O-K
# contrary to some other opinions (which i completely respect), i think women should buy, own, and use a scale. if you want to gain (cool!) or lose weight, buy a scale and use it twice a day; morning and night. buy it immediately. write down your weight twice per day. i promise, if you do this, you will not gain 20, 30 or 40 pounds on any diet, ever.
# take food combining seriously for at least 6 months. (educate yourself elsewhere on this)
# you should not gain more than 15pounds MAXIMUM on this diet. i'd to say no more than 10pounds, but perhaps if you are 5'11'' with a history of extreme anorexia, or other issues, you could potentially gain 15pounds of utterly beneficial and healthy weight.
# after about one month on this diet, do a four day water fast. i advise you to do this after a bit of time on the diet so that your body can begin to adjust, your colon will clear out a bit, and you are fully hydrated. start the fast on thursday evening and fast until breakfast on monday. consider this a weekend vacation for yourself. do not partake in any activity whatsoever. drink at least four liters of water each day. read up on fasting as much as you can. obviously do not do this with any contradictory conditions (e.g. type 1 diabetes). this short fast will provide a multitude of benefits. some of your weight gain at the beginning of this diet is truly just the massive volume of food that you are ALLOWED AND ENCOURAGED TO EAT, but your body does need a little rest in order to get used to the routine. i can elaborate on this idea if anyone is interested.
# about a week after re-feeding (on melons and simple foods), do one week of consecutive bikram yoga. i know i know, again, contrary to durianrider's opinion. he knows i respect his opinion and i think he mildly respects mine, or at least respects the notion of having other opinions. i do not recommend bikram yoga for the long term. i like the poses and i do them at home. this, again, is for another post. most bikram yoga studios have one-week trial offers, usually $20 for one week. great deal, and i know bikram is normally absurdly expensive. the point of this week of bikram yoga is to kick start the removal of sodium chloride, or, table salt (the stuff you've been eating since birth). i believe these seven days of committed yoga and sweating will assist in the removal of any unwanted "water weight". during each of these seven days, drink one liter of coconut water. buy the brand at the grocery store (one, zico, vita…) IT DOES NOT MATTER that it is pasteurized. get over it. the potassium in this coconut water will prevent cramping and dehydration and promote electrolyte balance (among other benefits). buy a one liter tetra pack per day (about $5). drink half of it two hours before the yoga and the rest of it immediately afterwards. eat one bunch of celery per day this week as well. the will promote the necessary HEALTHY water retention that you need IN ORDER TO LIVE. yes, we need sodium in our diet and celery is a phenomenal choice. i don't care if you go to bikram yoga and literally just sit on your mat for 90 minutes. the point of this exercise is for the sweating. if you want to find a dry sauna instead, go use a dry sauna every day for a week for one hour per day. never use a steam room (wet sauna, found at many gyms). then, stop. don't do this anymore. this is a medicinal and temporary therapeutic recommendation. learn to make yourself sweat via intense exercise. do not consume table salt, ever. never ever ever ever. no matter what "percentage" of raw + cooked food you eat, don't eat salt.
# if you still find yourself gaining weight on this diet, stop eating fruit at 4pm in the day. eat as much fruit as you can for two meals (breakfast and lunch). AS MUCH AS YOU CAN AND AS MUCH AS YOU WANT. after 4pm, only eat vegetables and non-sweet fruits (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, etc.) oranges and grapefruits are good night time fruits, as they are very easy to digest, combine well with veggies and fats, and are low-gi. AGAIN, EAT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN AND AS MUCH AS YOU WANT. sometimes it is quite helpful for someone trying to lose a lot of weight to give their body a longer chance to burn all of the sugar we're eating. in the case of a temporary beginner's weight-loss time period, give yourself from 4pm until breakfast the next morning.
# remember, as dr. graham says himself, this diet does not work if you aren't active. that is because health doesn't work if you aren't active. it's a law of nature and you can't get around it. period. watch all of durianrider's recent videos on fit females. listen to what he says and take it seriously. tone up and get stronger. this is a vital, key, keystone, absolutely non-negotiable element to achieving your desired results.
# i could go on if anyone is still reading this.
ALL MY LOVE,
JGL

Permalink Reply by Rawk n' Roll Jenny on July 2, 2012 at 5:26pm WRT the scale and the number on the scale and your body fat percentage (etc.!) :: especially at the beginning of this diet, you are not going to gain more muscle than you will lose fat (and toxins, water, etc.) in relation to one another. that is to say, don't get too attached to the number or what the number means OR how quickly the number changes. just make sure it continues to go in the direction you want it to go -- other than the potential 5-15 pounds of healthy weight that you're just going to have to deal with if you want to be a healthy human.
you may very well gain muscle if you're being very active or if you've never been athletic before. you may not be pleased with the rate of weight loss (as opposed to THE BAD IDEA DIET (atkins, master cleanse, anything other than this diet...). but it would be nearly impossible to gain more muscle in ratio to loss of fat/toxins/water, if that makes sense.
thanks and bye.
