Rawgasm, I've been meaning to ask you, what does your avatar image mean? I'm gay and I'm tempted to feel offended by it, but I can't imagine you meant it way. I'm trying to figure out how to put a positive spin on it, thanks for any assistance you might able to offer.

people spend too much time being "offended". When our parents were our age, if you were offended you just went somewhere else-did something else- lived your own life and quit worrying about what someone else said or did. simpler times, less trouble and headaches. this is posted by grettas' husband. hope my heterosexualness doesnt "offend anyone

so now your concern is how long it takes to write a post, not about what someone else uses as thier avatar image. Can we please make up our minds on what it is we are complaining about. lmao. And i never assumed or even cared about how many sexualities ther are out there. Be whatever sexuality you wish. Thats called minding your own business, and letting others do the same , try it sometime. Quit LETTING others , and thier opinions "OFFEND" you. Live for you, god bless

Hi Gretta (or Gretta's husband?) Thanks for your comments. However, I'm struggling to understand it. If I may ask what you mean when you say:

in this instance, do you mean that even though I eat a lot of fruit, like many other people here, if I'm offended by something that might be taken as anti-gay on this site, that I should just go away, instead of saying something about it?

I don't want to believe that's what you really mean, because don't we all just simply express our opinions here freely, about whatever we like or dislike?

I'm interested in hearing from Rawgasm whatever message he is/was trying to say by picking that image for his avatar. I considered sending him a private message to ask, but his profile is private and you cannot send a message. I realize that by bringing it up publicly I run the risk of being negative and showing that I am already offended, which is certainly something I am hesitant to do. This is why I tried to word my initial post in such a way that I hoped would be taken neutrally, but it is difficult to do so.

I see that the image has been changed already, incidentally, to something new, so I imagine it was merely transitional and maybe he changes his avatar often and it meant nothing (see option (a) below).

Incidentally, for those who are coming into this discussion late, the avatar in question appeared to be a symbol portraying two men having anal intercourse with a circle and a slash through it. It could mean any number of different things. It could mean any of the following:

a) not trying to say anything at all, just thought it was funny, or
b) I am not gay, or
c) I don't like gay people, or
d) I don't think men should have sex in public, or
e) something else not considered

I'm 43 years old and have been open about my sexuality for a long time. What people do doesn't phase me much anymore, I've seen a lot of behavior. I'm not so concerned with myself as with the community image and its welcoming feeling for new users. It concerns me when what appears to be anti-gay graffiti appears in a community web site that I care about (or anti any minority group for that matter). I could see it discouraging people that it alienates from being here, and eating more fruit. Isn't this web site about the fruit and not about people's sexuality (or other labels)?

If Rawgasm's intent had been anti-gay (option c) above, I was only planning to go so far as to ask him to state that clearly, just so we all understand. And if his intent was not that, it would be great to give him an opportunity to say so.

Either way, when there is a question, it needs to be asked. I like clarity and transparency.

The straight people did not take offend of the "no doggy style" sign. The iphone lover did not take offend of the "no iphone" sign. The durian lovers did not take offend of the "no durian" sign.
