where is the best place to order dates by mail from to Colorado in the States? (cost, freshness, cool folks etc...)

Yes, it is the time to order. The new crop should be coming off the trees now. The Barhis are the best. And if you are lucky and you order soon enough you could get the fresh Barhis. The DATE PEOPLE have the best dates. I believe their phone number is 760-359-3211. Robert Lower also has great dates. He also has Barhis. I have been to his place and bought the fresh Barhis from him as well. BTW: The date people have about 50 varieties of dates. You can sample quite a few of them if you are interested. I do not remember Robert Lower's phone number but I believe his website is www.flyingdiscranch.com
It has been 5 years since I have ordered dates. Between living in Kenya and Hawaii, I do not generally get around to dates. But I have had some of the best Barhis in Kenya that came from Iraq. I have never seen Medjools in Kenya so I do not know where they orginate from. But the Medjools from the California Desert are certainly ready this time of year. They are one of the first varieties to ripen. The California desert allows for an ideal climate for growing dates. They need 100 days of over 100 degree temps.
