So Reed you are basically saying it's good for chewing for teeth health. I have no problem with this since I always recommend chewing greens after every fruit meal.

All of your other points are irrelevant. You're using the common health-food-industry tactic of death by health benefits - throwing out a huge list of health benefits with the assumption that the reader won't analyze each one to see if it is (a) relevant (b) best received from the particular item you are promoting.

1) Complete protein / it has more protein than any other food. This is irrelevant since incomplete amino acid profile and protein deficiency are absolutely NOT a problem on this diet.

2) 92 Minerals - this is completely irrelevant since all greens contain an astonishing amount of minerals. This depends more on the soil it was grown in than what plant it is. Sea salt has 84 minerals; does that mean we should eat it? Just because it has 92 minerals does not mean chowing on it is the best source of them. Besides, you cannot digest large amounts of wheatgrass (which is why people juice it) and much of the mineral content is lost. Might as well just eat greens that humans can digest large amounts of.

3) Its effect on iron levels. Really, people are struggling with anemia? I've never been denied at the red cross. It's not a widespread problem on 811 - People who struggle with anemia aren't eating enough greens. Wheatgrass isn't a magic pill - the only thing that will fix your iron deficiency is wheatgrass! Or, it'll fix it faster than other things, so go get a juicer! Great.

4) You actually made an incredibly stupid point: Chlorophyll giving you energy? WHAT? You can't get energy from chlorophyll because humans can't digest it. Cows can digest it because they have 3 stomachs. Just kidding, they have 4.

It isn't a human food. You can't make a meal out of it. You're telling us to eat a bowl of grass, or spend $500 removing the fiber? The only way to eat a large enough amount of wheatgrass to get any benefits from it is to juice it, so your point that it can all be done for free is beside the point. I'm fine with chewing on a handful after a fruit meal, but come on, people, eat REAL FOOD. Grass is not human food, it is cow food. It is basically a health food industry fad with the intent of selling wheatgrass growing products and juicers - Reed d00d just because you can grow it in your yard for free and chew on it for hours to get the same amount of nutrients you'd get from 5 minutes in a juicer, doesn't mean it isn't a contrived scheme to make money. It's GRASS, for god's sake.

For people who like blogs, here is http://skeptico.blogs.com/skeptico/2005/04/wheatgrass_madn.html

In Jamba's defense, the nutrition labels don't list all 84 minerals since that would be space-consuming.

+2   we already debunked this before.  how many more times do people need to hear wheat grass juice is not 80 10 10 or nat hyg. ;)

empty nutrients,  we are not a grainovre we don't have 4 stomaches

sunshine can you link the debunk thread please for others who have not been informed? i am new here

I'm sure you can google thousands of articles dismissing chlorella, spirulina and wheatgrass. At the same time you'll find thousands of positive articles and numerous double blind medical studies showing valid and positive results. Those studies include using it as a cancer prevention and even studies where it reduced the side effects of chemotherapy. Everyones diet is the best until they switch to another. :)  We're talking about raw greens not the fountain of youth or a poison. Healthy food in is a good goal to better health. I'll find some de-bunk threads for you in a bit.

thats why i tried it reed, i read somewhere some woman beat cancer by taking it. It is so gross but i forced it down

BS

Quoting Peter:

[1) Complete protein / it has more protein than any other food. This is irrelevant since incomplete amino acid profile and protein deficiency are absolutely NOT a problem on this diet.]

Check your lean body mass as I see some muscle atrophy and in many people in this forum. Then look at my pics and tell me that chlorella, spirulina and wheatgrass don't help with muscle growth. I'm purposely cutting about 15 pounds of muscle right now as I have a triathlon coming up.

[2)  Besides, you cannot digest large amounts of wheatgrass (which is why people juice it)]

You just told me wheatgrass has ZERO fiber and now you're admitting that the fiber is too high. Digestion starts in the mouth (or even in a blender) You can aid digestion, reduce the workload on your body by reducing the fiber and making it very digestible using a juicer or blender. It's a giant leap forward to gain a higher nutritional value in otherwise difficult to digest matter.

Take a lesson in Anthropology. Jump back >2.6 million years ago when the hominid population Paranthropus robustus and Paranthropus boisei roamed the earth.  Paranthropus Robustus evolved megadontia teeth to masticate dense, fibrous, lower nutrient vegetation.

Paranthropus boisei evolved smaller teeth, and a smaller GI system because they were eating higher nutrient, higher quality, and easier to digest foods. Their bodies spent so much energy on digestion that less energy was relegated to the brain. Large amounts of energy were relegated to the brain and its development instead of non stop grazing and digestion like the cow.

Do you ever feel like tired, sick and brain dead after very large meals? It's because most of our energy is focused on digestion at that point. Our focus, endurance, strength and mental abilities actually decline during that heavy digestion. Learn how to extract the healthiest, mineral dense, vitamin dense nutrients (with a blender or juicer) and that will free up our organs and blood supply achieve higher levels of performance, thought processes and recovery.

Blenders are optional but they have advantages. Those 1200 watts for 5-15 minutes a day is that much energy our body does not need to use on digestion. The young might not notice it but many Triathletes and Olympic Gold medalists use them as it gives them extra energy. Also the elder, sick, missing teeth or diseased can benifit from it.

[3) Its effect on iron levels. Really, people are struggling with anemia?]

Yes, many people on this forum are taking B12 shots for Anemia including some mods.

[4) a. You actually made an incredibly stupid point: Chlorophyll giving you energy? WHAT? You can't get energy from chlorophyll because humans can't digest it. Cows can digest it because they have 3 stomachs. Just kidding, they have 4.]

False: Chlorophyll is digestible http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11308371

[4) b.  It isn't a human food. You can't make a meal out of it. You're telling us to eat a bowl of grass,]

Peter, It's not only a food but it's the second largest food crop in the world!  Think about it. What is wheatgrass?  It's WHEAT before it's fully grown and sold as processed cooked bread and a million other food items. LOL

peter why are you being so aggressive?? we are here to help eachother out,  Reed spent alot of his time to construct a post just to help me, he is not trying to profit out of selling grass, so why are you so upset? if you believe his post is misleading then lets have a friendly debate about it so that we can get the facts straight and so our banana family can be as healthy as possible.

ill tell you what i know, and that is fact!!! i dont care what you or any others say about it because i have experienced it first hand.

when i was on a sad diet i used to feel like my blood was extremely toxic and i would get extremely ill every few weeks. When i started taking wheatgrass it felt like a blood cleanser, it had an unbelievable alkaline effect on me, and it would halt the activity of anything and everything that was making me sick. No other vegetABLE made me feel this way, i tried everything, although to be honest i never ate vegetables/greens in hugh amounts.

I think its true what they say about wheatgrass - a few shots is equivalent to kilo of normal greens

That's what I'm doing, having a friendly debate. I believe his post is misleading so I responded to it. If you have issues with my style of writing, feel free to critique it, but calling me aggressive doesn't really help.

I'm not saying wheatgrass is the devil - and I'm not saying it won't make you feel better on a SAD. But that's not the issue. It is usually presented as the magical elixir of health (complete with massive list of irrelevant of fake nutritional benefits) , when it is nutritionally deficient (no fiber) and thus acts as a stimulant.

Might as well just eat lettuce, it's actually digestible in its present form.

Back to friendly debate mode:

Check your lean body mass as I see some muscle atrophy and in many people in this forum. Then look at my pics and tell me that chlorella, spirulina and wheatgrass don't help with muscle growth. I'm purposely cutting about 15 pounds of muscle right now as I have a triathlon coming up.

Chlorella and spirulina are NOT SUPPORTED on 30BAD. Please do not promote items that are on the "Ingredients/materials not supported list." This is SRS BSNS.

Also, no problem with muscle atrophy here. I don't see muscle atrophy in "many people" in this forum; maybe you are looking on another forum by accident.

You just told me wheatgrass has ZERO fiber and now you're admitting that the fiber is too high.

Really? Dude, this is just disrespectful. Wheatgrass juice has most of the fiber removed. Wheatgrass has lots of fiber. You are manufacturing a distraction.

Also, skip the evolution lesson. Do I ever feel tired/braindead/sick after a meal? No, because I eat fruit meals. I feel like running a marathon after every meal.

Peter, It's not only a food but it's the second largest food crop in the world!

Irrelevant that it's the 2nd largest food crop. McDonalds is the 1st largest food chain. So what?

It's not a food. Grains only began to be considered "food" around 12000 BC. Grasses are for bovines and other animals with multiple stomachs.

If you are saying that we need technology to digest food because we did not evolve to digest it... why don't we just eat food that we evolved to properly digest?

Juicers and blenders don't 'increase energy'. Whole food stimulates peristaltic activity and is not oxidized. Further more - removing fiber makes food nutritionally deficient. You are so focused on micronutrients you are forgetting about FIBER. Removing most of the fiber from a food means you are saying - good luck, tummy, have fun getting the massive amount of nutrients out of THAT! It passes through you too quickly and can even act as a laxative, which, as we know, can be addictive to your colon.

Sure, wheatgrass "cured cancer." No single substance cures anything, though - it helps create the conditions in which the body can cure itself. Chemotherapy "cures cancer" too, so that argument is not exactly effective. Fruit helps provide the proper conditions, and you don't need to use a machine to make it nutritionally deficient either.

correct the body heals ' in spite of' what you throw at it when you get non 'food' out of the way

Many people are getting Hypodermic B12 injections trying to solve B12 issues. Are they on the list? Chlorophyll containing foods are a quick way to avoid Hypodermic B12 injections. Why are you trying to make this forum a cult? By doing so you will just alienate the most knowledgable.

Peter, Should I follow you around and poke at your threads that are not supported by 30BAD? Like this thread you started... Where did this come from?

C*** is censored but dick is not. Both are used as derogatory terms. Both refer to genitalia. I can't figure out whether this is sexist towards dudes or chicks. Censorship inequality is one of the most dangerous forms of subconscious prejudice.

LOL

You just told me wheatgrass has ZERO fiber and now you're admitting that the fiber is too high.

Really? Dude, this is just disrespectful.

When I'm wrong I'm glad someone pointed it out as I just learned something new. It's nearly imposable for someone with a narcissistic personality disorder to ever admit they could be wrong. Where do you stand? You call it disrespectful when you're unequivocally proven wrong. LOL

rubber glue.

detox?

do or did you support or encourage other people to do wheatgrass on this site?
