Hello there friends,
I have been HCRV for almost 5 months solid, no overts. I had my body fat percentage measured at the gym when I was about 4 weeks in, and I found out that I was at 16.1%. At that time I weighed 155lbs, I am 5'10''.
So. Today at the gym I weighed in at 175lbs, with shoes and clothing, and am now at 25.3% body fat according to the calipers. I know that dexascan is waay better, I unfortunately do not have access to one.
My trainer is giving me a whole lot of 'I told you so's", and telling me to go paleo. This is obviously not an option for me, or anyone else with half a brain. However, I am startingt o doubt the magic of fruit, and I am devestated to feel like this diet has failed me because I have given it all I've got for the last several months. I've been spending between $500 and $700 a month on (mostly) organic fruit. I have made many positive lifestyle changes since beginning my hcrv journey, such as quitting smoking, drinking alcohol and coffee/tea, dropping all spices and condiments, and being more active.
How can this be? Looking for some support and any helpful information before I go donate two cases of bananas to Occupy Portland. :(((((
Respectfully,
Caitlin

Permalink Reply by Caitlin Ann on February 11, 2012 at 3:38pm I was working out almost daily when my body fat percentage was in the teens. Lately, the past two months or so, I have been working out three times a week for a couple of hours. I work 10+ hour days, constantly moving and I felt that my body could use the recovery time between workouts. Truthfully, I could have definitely been working out more frequently. I have since rearranged my schedule to allow myself at least an hour of cardio time before work each day. I have found that if I wait until after working all day I am less likely to make it a priority. So, I totally am making it a DAILY priority now. I still, just can't understand this dramatic of an increase.

Permalink Reply by Caitlin Ann on February 11, 2012 at 3:44pm The same personal trainer at my gym measured it both times. I do feel bigger, I just didn't realize how much bigger I have gotten. I am probably better hydrated than I was when I was pumped full of salt and alcohol, but 20lbs is a lot. As for calorie intake, I was only able to eat around 1500 calories at first. Needless to say, after months of eating 90/5/5, I am able to eat larger quantities of bananas in a sitting, making a meal out of 10 or so. So I have been getting more calories, between 3000 and 4000 a day. I am not sedentary by any means.
Permalink Reply by Sunshine on February 11, 2012 at 2:43pm why no overts? fruits and veggies can't get you to the 10% fat that i see as helping myself
Permalink Reply by Mary Elizabeth on February 11, 2012 at 2:47pm Do you feel you look bigger? do your clothes fit ok? number aren't everything. Do the positives outweight the temporary weight gain? were you eating a restricted calorie diet before 8/1/1?
Permalink Reply by Ezekiel Kok on February 11, 2012 at 3:08pm i gotta agree with Mary sis. lets not look at numbers here because they do not rule your life. you are the controller of your life and no one else has the right to tell u what to do! :) look at yourself and ask yourself this. do you feel better eating fruits and vegs? are the fruits u eat more toward the fat side? (my only knowledge of fatty fruits are durians, avocado, coconut meat). most impt is ur happy with yourself and your clothes fit nicely, your skin continues to shine. you motivated me, now i wanna motivate you! i just finished 20 oranges and i feel so happy! dont give up cait!
Permalink Reply by Caitlin Ann on February 11, 2012 at 3:47pm I was on a restricted calorie diet before becoming hcrv. I understand that if this is the case, weight gain can be a normal part of your body's healing process. However, what I do not understand is why my body waited until the last four weeks before gaining a drastic amount of weight, that seems to be body fat. I feel like I do look bigger in my abdomen and maybe my face. I would say that yes, the positives do outweigh the negatives, but right now, I am questioning everything.

Permalink Reply by Paul Cohen on February 11, 2012 at 3:10pm It's not uncommon to gain weight when you quit smoking. For the first time in ever so long, you can finally, really taste food.
