I know that we aren't supposed to count calories, but let's say I had 30,000 calories in one day. Of course, that would be way more than my body needs, so what happens with those extra calories? Are they all excreted when I use the bathroom?

Here is my before and after shot. 5 seconds apart. For newbies I could have said one was on drugs and one without lol!.
Time of day, how we hold ourselves, what we have just eaten/done via activity etc all will alter how we appear.
I feel its very important when starting out to count calories, to make sure you are getting enough. And it's been my personal experience that the more fruit cals eaten the more energy I have and the more active I become. Unless you're rehabbing an injury like Chris, I don't see any reason to overconsume and store it unless maybe you're expecting a famine.

Permalink Reply by DURIANRIDER on April 19, 2012 at 10:24pm I do it 3 times a day. Yesterday I ate 90 000cals from watermelon and celery. My 400lb neighbour got obese on peaches and cilantro. Happens all the time.
Asking if you can eat too much fruit is like asking the bike shop if your rear wheel will melt from pushing on the pedals too hard. Some people slip the rear tyre in some oil and think they melted the alloy though. ;)
'aw man! I was riding in the rain on a white line and hit a man hole cover and my rear will didnt slip from lack of traction! It actually melted for a nano second but cos it was raining the alloy reformed and my rear wheel gained traction! full on man! honest!'
Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on April 18, 2012 at 12:43am Yeah this thread is redonkulous and is just going to confuse a bunch of newcomers who all of a sudden are going to start worrying about eating too many calories instead of eating enough.
FIRST OF ALL, calories? What source are you talking about. If you consume excess calories from fat you will get fat quickest. If you consume excess calories from protein, your stomach will get more acidic, you are at a higher risk of cancer, you will have less energy, etc. If you consume excess calories from carbohydrates, you will have more energy and less cravings.
YES once you hit a certain amount you may begin to store some of it as fat. But why is it REALLY BAD to talk about it here? Because on the SAD, people accept the 2,000 calorie/day amount as gospel. And people also think it is okay to go BELOW that. So we have girls limiting themselves to 1000 calories a day in hopes that they will lose weight, which just shows they don't understand basic metabolic processes which dictate that your body will store fat if you do not get enough carbohydrates in you to fuel your brain which uses 20 watts of power and the rest of your body.
HERE on this wonderful forum, we have a minimum recommendation of 2500 for womyn and 3000 for dudes. It is safe to say that no one, even the smallest person, following the rest of 811 to the letter, will gain weight at that amount. HOWEVER, it is hard for people coming from SAD and calorie restriction to accept that such a high amount will not make them gain weight. ADD TO THAT the number of people here who realize that YES, 2500 and 3000 is a MINIMUM, and many people require more than that. I require 3500-4000, for instance. Some tiny girls here say they regularly eat 4000-5000, and they are not even pro athletes or anything. If you are used to the SAD gospel # of 2,000/day, you will FREAK OUT if someone suggests you eat 2-3 times that amount!
So fast forward to here and now. This is a thread where a bunch of people are talking about gaining weight on too many calories. First of all, WHAT CALORIES are we talking about? If you consume 5,000 calories and eat 500 fat cals you could gain weight and feel sluggish because that is a lot of avocados. So most people in this thread are talking about carb calories except they are being sloppy and ignoring scientific literacy by being general and vague and just talking about "calories." Second of all, the amount of carb calories you'd need to gain weight is pretty far above the minimum recommendations on this forum. Why is this bad? Because now newcomers will read this thread, see "calories" (the vague term which could refer to overeating fat, and overeating carbs, which mean two very different things) and see "overeat" and "gain weight" and start freaking out. Some girls start out at 2500 and stay there, and some find they need more or else they will feel sluggish, not have energy, crave cooked, and possibly gain weight due to their metabolic processes getting freaked out. People that are newcomers from calorie restriction and read this thread, however, may decide to stay at 2500, and if they need 3500, are compromising their health and well-being, and compromising their success on 811, and compromising the public image of 811 if they gain weight and/or fail.
So yes, there is a benefit to dicussing thermogenesis, glycogen converting to triglycerides, and the amount of excess carb calories vs. level of activity you'd need to gain weight. But the cost is that new members, who do not entirely understand the mechanics and are not ready to accept these large caloric intakes over their SAD gospel #, will have limited progress and may fail or destroy their health.
This thread belongs in the "Science" section of this forum. Any threads with this subject material should be in the science section. When people are discussing this, they should be careful not to say things that would mislead newcomers. They should also differentiate between different types of calories. They should make it clear that the amounts of carb calories they are talking about that could make someone gain weight are not 2,000 nor 3,000. They should make it clear that there are many forum members, even semi-active womyn, who eat large amounts of carb calories with no weight gain. This subject matter simply has too much potential to mislead newcomers. It would be impossible for a newcomer to stretch their stomach enough to consume so many carb calories that they would gain weight.
Permalink Reply by Sunshine on April 18, 2012 at 1:29am bravo i say even put it in the rants and raves sub forum at this point because lots of myths have been perpetuated and yes definitely differentiate between TYPES of calories . Get specific post a cronometer of what you are talking about for instance.
Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on April 18, 2012 at 5:55am Thank you. 80/10/10 at 6000 calories is a LOT of fat. 80/10/10 at 1000 calories is not very much fat. In both instances you can gain weight, and for entirely different reasons, and only in the latter scenario is it because of carbs, and in that case it is because of too few. So you could be vague and just talk about calories, but then I would start ranting again. Theoretically, hypothetically, If you ate 8,000 kcals/day at 2% fat and lay in bed all day, you might gain weight from excess carbs but then lying in bed all day is not part of this lifestyle, is it? Plus your stomach would hurt. That makes it, for the most part, a ridiculous intellectual matter and not worthy of exposure to newbies whom it could damage severely.

Permalink Reply by PK on April 18, 2012 at 3:08am It is almost impossible for a human to consume that many calories, may be if one drank a few liters of oil, but who would want too? Even SAD people.
On a low fat fresh raw fruit and leafy green based diet, it is almost impossible to overeat. The other day, I had a huge salad of greens and tomatoes. It was probably less than 400 calories, and yet, my belly was fill to the brim.
I recommend that people not stress and worry over the impossibles, but to focus on the possible and the positives we have in the moment.
Peace PK
Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on April 18, 2012 at 11:48am Haha, are you SURE that SAD people would not want to drink a few liters of oil? Especially if it was genetically modified soybean oil (they like it so much it's in every processed food product)
