I have a strong desire to succeed at 80/10/10. But when the slump of not getting in enough calories finally takes its toll on me and I'm out of fruit, I resource to wheat, cheese, sugar, and sometimes meat. I'm having trouble buying all the food necessary to get me at the 3000 calorie mark everyday, so I can stay on track and not resource to junk. This is mostly due to lack of knowledge, partly from lack of money. I need help working out how much money It'll take weekly to buy me enough food. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Permalink Reply by Nova on July 31, 2012 at 11:00am What???!!!, that is so cheap. If I was to buy that here that would cost me around $70-80 NZ dollars.
Permalink Reply by Jelle on July 30, 2012 at 7:25pm In The Netherlands I average on 14 Euro a day. Try to find a place in the US where the fruit is affordable and the quality is high ;)
Permalink Reply by Oliver on July 30, 2012 at 7:37pm For me in Germany it would be 15 euro a day, when I eat cheap. (4kg watermalon, manly bananas and dates and the Salad) when I eat additional mor expensive fruits like cherrys (love them. :) )or baby spinach its about 20 euro. But going to the market before closing can cut the price by half or even more.
cheers,
Olly
Permalink Reply by Alex Pence on July 30, 2012 at 8:23pm Cheese and meat is very expensive, if you're having money issues then rice & beans is way cheaper and more nutritious as well as free from the animal cruelty after taste :)
If I wanted to eat as cheaply as possible then I'd just get a 40lb crate of bananas ($10) and a bunch of greens, I reckon that $20 would last a week ;)
Permalink Reply by Durian Blossom on July 30, 2012 at 9:06pm Here in Hawaii it's about $10 per 1000 calories, organic. Expensive but cheaper than degenerative health. I think it's probably essential to make growing as much as you can yourself a priority. Greens and veggies if nothing else. Forging excellent connections to growers or wholesalers is also a necessity, and not only because you'll save money, but because you'll have access to the best quality and diversity.
1 Honeydew 500 cals $3.00 (conventional)
4 mangoes 500 cals $5.50 (conventional)
10 bananas 1000 cals $2.25 (conventional)
25 dates 1000 cals $2.00 (bulk organic)
Total 3000 cals $12.75 for the day or $90. for a week
I bet others can be more frugal than this, I always want to spend less but end up not taking the time to buy smart. I do grow my own greens for half the year.
Locally you may be able to get good deals. Here in Maine I can buy bulk wild blueberries and pick apples really cheaply. A of people are able to buy spotted bananas for next to nothing - most stores show only those with no spots.
