Permalink Reply by Esra on June 11, 2012 at 9:26am Hey Effy :). Greens are essential! You don't have to eat them every single day, but make sure you're getting them on. Do you use Cron-o-meter? That's a good way to check that you're getting everything you need.
Permalink Reply by Elsophe on June 11, 2012 at 11:00am Hi Effie, I remember seeing an interview with Dr Doug where he said that eating just fruit and no salad isn't 80/10/10. I don't have the book on hand to cite but I'm also pretty sure there is a section devoted to salad greens and the fact that we need to eat them.
Have you heard of the Boutenko family? The whole family went raw to improve their health, but found that their health plateaued after a few years, and they could only overcome this plateau by incorporating more greens into their diet. (Victoria Boutenko is often credited with the invention of the green smoothie).
Also re: Victoria Boutenko, she studied wild primates and their eating habits and found that they stopped eating fruit late in the afternoon and ate greens in the evening. This seems to be a habit that lots of 811ers have adopted, presumably because you shouldn't be tooo hungry in the evening after a few good fruit meals throughout the day.
Best,
Elsophe
