Hi Spekgirl,

These are Fuyu persimmons.  They are ripe when they are bright orange with no yellow or green on the fruit.  For this kind of persimmon, you can eat it while it is firm and just peel and eat.  They may have the odd seed inside.  These are one of my favorite fruit .... yummmmm.  The taste reminds me a little of pumpkin pie filling because to me it tastes like it has already been spiced.

If you ever go shopping for these, watch out for another kind of persimmon, the Hachiya persimmon.  It looks the same but much bigger and even if it is all bright orange you still have to wait till it is very soft and mushy before it is edible.  If you eat the Hachiya before it's mushy it will coat your tongue and make it feel "furry".

Hope you enjoy, Peace. :o)

thank you! i dont think these are ripe, i just tried some and it was crunchy, not the best, will they ripen off the tree?
Yes, they should.  But I have only bought them when they were ripe.  I think you can ripen them faster in a paper bag with a banana like most fruit.  I haven't had one in a really long time.  I think I need to go find some ... soon.  :o)

YOU DONT NEED TO PEEL THEM

I HAVE STAPLED ON THESE FOR MONTHS

yes agreed Sebastian, no need to peel, just wash well if not organic...

yes, they will ripen off the tree, you can speed this up if you want by putting them in a bag ( paper or plastic ) with a few apples ( the ripening apples give off gas which helps the other fruit - in this case the fuyu persimons - ripen.... )

Yes, the Hachiya persimons that Kimber mentions above are absolutely amazing and I have stapled on them for months...

Hope this helps... xx

thank you heaps guys, i will let them ripen up a bit, cant wait to eat them, making a dressing out of them sounds good! i will look out for the other type, im trying to try some new fruits but we are heading into the winter season here in aussie, but still got some good ones around :0) bless you!
