4$ 3$ 2$ 1$ a pound what have you found? I have been getting California medjools for $7 a pound from the grocery store, 3 weeks into this lifestyle.
Athena told me to email this place in Germany, http://www.pss.li/product_info.php?info=p33_dates.html, still waiting for a reply from them.
Looking online for a few minutes I see them for like $5 a pound without a bulk order.
What are your buying experiences?

Never ordered from there, but they look good... and for that price, if I really wanted them, I'd give them a try!

11 pound boxes, $31.00 a box, and with USPS Priority Flat Rate Box shipping is $12.61, works out to $3.96 a pound shipped for organic dates, best deal I have seen so far.
Shields is a little cheaper at $3.62 a pound shipped for non-organic, but I have to buy three 15lb boxes to get the best shipping price and want organic.
They say their organic but they don't appear to be certified organic.
You say the Halawi are good, have you or anyone reading this tried Dayri or Zahidi dates? Either from this provider or someplace else? How are they?
Permalink Reply by YourSugaBumps on July 11, 2012 at 3:01pm Sorry, I have never had either of those. But, if you order from them, let us know how they were - both product and service.
Permalink Reply by David Costa on July 11, 2012 at 3:20pm Just ordered an 11lb box of the Halawi's, read that the Dayri and Zahidi are drier than the Halawi, so maybe I'll order a box when I feel like trying the others soon.
I'm in the UK and would love to get hold of some Californian medjools, we used to sell them in the fruit and veg shop I used to work in in the 90's. Far superior to the Israeli ones sold in our supermarkets over here. For 200g of organic the cheapest is £2.00 ($3.11), I used to pay £2.79 ($4.33) for 180g in another supermarket. I've just ordered 14 packs for the next week with my weekly delivery of shopping : )
Permalink Reply by T on July 12, 2012 at 2:23am Thanks for this thread. I was actually wanting to order my first box and wondering where to go as well. Have been buying Trader Joe's medjools at $5 a pound, and wanted to find discount and try different varieties.
Permalink Reply by David Costa on July 12, 2012 at 2:33am I went to Trader Joe's two days ago, looked all around for dates then asked, they didn't have large amounts available at a decent price.
Read the posts above about medjooldates.com, I just ordered some last night, doesn't look like they shipped out yet, but it came out to $3.96 a pound for organic dates including shipping cost to ship to me in Massachusetts. Looks like they are based in Cali.
Some of the sites people have linked are out of season, so I'll have to revisit the sites once and a while to see if their selling.
Permalink Reply by David Costa on July 14, 2012 at 9:37am Just got the dates, that was fast, only took 40 hours from when I placed the order from Bard, California to get to me on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, that's with the cheapest shipping option too, USPS flat rate.
These things are small, box said 11lb (5kg), I don't have a scale so I counted 685 dates in the box, which should be 7.3 grams per date with the pit still inside, I guess maybe 5-6 grams each without the pit.
Their medium moisture, not too dry, I'm no connoisseur but they aren't much different in taste from cali medjools.
The box is stamped with CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers)
Thanks for posting the results....that's pretty cool how fast they came, and certified organic.
Permalink Reply by T on July 14, 2012 at 11:15am I followed your lead and ordered the same (halawi). Mine arrived today as well here in Chicago, but I haven't had time to open the package yet.
Permalink Reply by T on July 15, 2012 at 6:45am I thought they were quite moist. Very easily pitted. Much moister than the Trader Joe's and grocery store medjools I've been buying here. They were a bit less sweet -- which is fine by me. Made a nice mellow datorade with them today. Yes, they are small.
