I am in an online group of really lovely ladies. We came together for one reason or another and have similar views on parenting and some other topics. It's a great support group, but lately it's driving me crazy because the feed is full of questions about how to lose some weight, etc.. (Most of the ladies are overweight!) No one thinks to ask the slender vegan for tips....
I have to laugh at DR's videos about the people eating fried chicken and wondering why they are so fat-- that is exactly what is going on .. they are eating crap and staying fat.
I wish I could post one of those videos in the group, but I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings (even though they probably need it.... ) so I'm venting here.
"Feeling totally unable to lose any weight. I've been gaining and gaining and gaining. Every sinc the heart/headache problems started. Was on heart meds for a long time and stopped them in February. The wait came on when I started the medication like 2 years ago. I weighed like 160 back then. Now I'm 191 and it just keeps creeping on more and more. I don't know what to do! I just bought my first pair of size 18's and I'm seriously depressed and so disappointed that I've let this happen."
I told her about a certain raw food program that I found fabulous and I know people are having great results with, and she says, "...the site looks interesting. I have a great diet, and exercise daily. Just having problems shedding any pounds."
Oh, a great diet, REALLY?? So why are you still fat?? and "creeping on more and more"
So I gently mentioned that maybe her diet isn't all that great.
Her reply: "No I really do have a great diet. The reason I'm so depressed is because it does keep creeping up even with a great diet."
I think a lot of people really DO think they are eating great. They don't know how many fat cals they are ingesting. And a lot just don't really want to think about what they're eating. It might be helpful to point out the dangers of a high fat diet (which really can't be argued) and a sample, healthful sounding meal that's loaded with fat. I find most people have no idea about this.
True, that's a great point. Just tracking the fat I have been eating this past week since starting 811 has been eye opening. (And I really DO eat a healthy diet! Hehe)
