Recently eating a lot of oranges I have come to find that all the citrus really effects my gums. Harley says he may eat two oranges a year. I'm wondering: what are some other sources I can get sufficient vitamin C from without eating much citrus?

Permalink Reply by Alyssa on February 6, 2012 at 4:40am I'm eating a huge bowl of applesauce for breakfast right now. 10 apples blended with water and a little cinnamon, and according to cronometer, that provides 102.9mg Vit C (or 121% RDA). I really think on LFRV, vitamin C should be the least of your worries, even without citrus. Most fruits provide abundant amounts of Vit. C. Do you eat a lot of tomatoes? They provide a ton of it too. Mangoes also have as much, if not more Vit. C. than oranges.
If you really want to eat citrus though (I know I could never give it up), have you tried rinsing your mouth or brushing your teeth about half an hour to an hour after eating it?

Permalink Reply by Charlie on February 7, 2012 at 3:22am It was mostly that I was using oranges as a staple. I live in a cold climate so durring the winter months I don;t have many options. You are right though, I shouldn't be concerned with Vitamin C. I think i was mostly worried because i had been sticking to staples mostly (Bananas and Dates and Spinach) and getting no Vitamin C, nor D or B12 (obviously) on Cronometer. I'll try the water tip for future orange experiments. Thank you :)
