30 Bananas a Day!

I figure I would start a thread on the victories of people doing what needs to be done.

Some may believe what can be done well some are working on the solutions.

Here is one to start with.

He gave up a fortune because he knew he could not promote his families business.

Do not believe the filthy lies of happy cows in today's modern world.

Very true Prad.

People speak up and corporations do things. It is up to the people to demand and want better changes.

Yes and I have come to learn that sweet pup who was limping around as a stray at a gas station is simply being adored by the medical staff and foster parents now. :-)

Here is another victory from a real soldier.

"Soldier trades cigarettes for maimed, hungry dog- Army Sergeant Nick B took unusual action against cruelty he witnessed serving in Afghanistan. When he encountered a tied-up, skinny Shepherd mix covered in mud, ears and tail hacked away, Nick asked the people living nearby if he could have him. But the owners, who were planning to use the dog for gruesome "entertainment" purposes, were only willing to give him up in return for cigarettes. The soldier happily traded. http://dogtime.com/soldier-trades-cigarettes-for-hungry-maimed-dog...."

Second annual event the first had veggie burgers for sale.

With the huge success of the sale of them and demand.  Denise has demanded that they be made available again at this event to be held on June 16h.

Nice to know that those wanting to help one group of beings is not willing to eat the others.

Hopefully other animal related events will start connecting the dots and offering veg head choices and eventually removing the other cruelty products.

***BREAKING NEWS*** Waterford City Council Votes to Ban Animal-Act Circuses

Dear Members & Supporters,

ARAN applauds Waterford City Council for tonight passing a motion to ban
animal-act circuses. The motion that was introduced by compassionate
independent councilor Sean Reinhardt and seconded by John Hearne was backed by
a majority of votes. This successful motion now means that Waterford is the
latest Irish city to ban such establishments in line with Fingal and Cork
Councils. This latest result was prompted when ARAN began lobbying city
councilors to introduce the motion. The motion now needs to be drafted up and
made into by-laws which we will ensure goes into law.

Our efforts to ban animal-act circuses is part of our ‘Stop Circus Suffering
in Ireland’ campaign that aims to educate members of the public about the
suffering and cruelty associated with the keeping of animals in circuses. The
campaign is also focusing on local council motions as we believe it will take
some time before national legislation is drafted, and for the many animals
languishing in Irish circuses, they do not have time to wait.

There can be no mistaking the fact that ARAN’s dedicated, upbeat and forward
thinking approach is greatly changing the mindsets of our nation. Together
with our effective lobbying, our dedicated educational outreach programs, our
hugely popular events and demonstrations, undercover investigations, celebrity
support and our media campaigns, there can be no denying that for a small
grassroots group like ARAN, run by volunteers, we pack a serious punch when it
comes to getting the work done in order to bring about a more kinder,
compassionate world for all. Our work has clearly taken down the curtain that
has hidden the infamous world of animal abuse for so long, but our work is
also changing more peoples hearts and minds than ever before – and this is
what's needed to stop cruelty to animals.

Thank you for all that you’re doing to help animals, your ongoing support of
our campaigns and programs, and of course for not turning a blind eye to the
suffering of so many animals, together we are winning, one step at a time.

Wow Prad that is great news.

Thanks to all those that helped out.

Dear Members & Supporters,

Below is clarification to last night's announcement regarding Waterford City
Council's motion on animal-act circuses. The motion which was introduced by
Independent Councilor Sean Reinhardt, and seconded by Sinn Fein Councilor John
Hearne, aims to ban wild animals in traveling circuses in Waterford City. The
next step is that the motion now goes to the Council's Strategic Policy
Committee (SPC) where the wording of this bylaw will be drafted. Once the
draft of the bylaw is made, it will go back to Council and go on for public
display for thirty days with an extra week for members of the public,
Councilors and other interested parties to make submissions or comments. The
submissions or comments, if any, will then go back to the Council for
consideration, before it then becomes a bylaw. Thirty days after, the bylaw
becomes effective. This is all standard procedure when such motions and bylaws
are introduced.

This is absolutely fantastic news and is a huge, progressive step forward.
ARAN's focus will now be to ensure that by the end of 2012 Waterford City
actually makes this motion, as is, into a legally binding bylaw which will
mean any circus using wild animals will be prohibited in the City. We're also
hoping that similar motions planned for Drogheda and Galway will be this
successful too. Our next step is to ensure that all cities, towns or boroughs
that pass these motions, actually make it into local bylaws. For this reason,
we are suspending any further lobbying or campaigning of other towns, cities
and boroughs until we can firmly secure these motions into local bylaws where
we have succeeded.

Trust in ARAN to ensure we'll bring about an end to animal-act circuses in
Ireland. It's going to take sometime, but step by step, we'll get there.

Thank you,

John Carmody
Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN)
'Fighting animal abuse across Ireland'

P.S. More good news! A Councilor for Kilkenny Borough has also contacted us
expressing their support, and aims to introduce a similar motion in July. We
will work with this Councilor and the others to ensure they are successful and
aim to get them into actual bylaws ASAP. Please take a moment now to send an
email to both Waterford City Councilors and thank them for introducing their
motion. Councillor John Hearne cllrjhearne@waterfordcity.ie and
cllrsreinhardt@waterfordcity.ie.
